It is about 1300 years old, A 9th century inscription was discovered here, with the earliest reference (890 AD) to the name Bengaluru, defeating all other legends about the origin of the city's name. The first 2 shrines were built in 9th and 10th centuries by the Ganga dynasty rulers: Ereganga Nitimarga I and Ereyappa Nitimarga II. Rest of the 3 shrines were built by the Cholas in the 11th century. The figure on a pillar is believed to be that of Kulothunga Chola I. Inner walls of the temple have inscriptions in old scripts of Kannada and Tamil.

Renovation is under progress and located beside the lake. Right now cool & calm. Simply collecting the parking charges. Morning visit to the temple is good.

It is being renovated. So every thing is out of place. They are closing even before 11:30 and rushing the devotees. This was a hundred year old temple with the old world charm. Hope the renovation would not make it another place of business but let it remain a place of worship....

This temple is located in Begur. Temple location exactly next to the main road and inside the market. This is having 2 entrance and some small small under construction temples are inside the temple premises. You can buy all the necessary items just before entering to the temple.

Welcome to the ancient temple which carries one of the earliest references to Bengaluru on a veeragallu (hero stone) from those times. This is an over 1100 years old temple. Restoration is still in progress. 3 gopurams have been built newly.. Fourth is under construction. The ancient structures look withered and have suffered serious erosion. Entry is free and you can move around freely. It is not vast. There are no visiting hours. The old temple does not have any entry points, you can only go around it. Must visit to get closer to Bengaluru and India's heritage.

It’s a historic temple built 1000 years ago (approx based on priest and temple management) by Ganga, Chola and Chalukya Dynasty. Locally they call it as "Naganatheshvara Temple". its divine place when we enter into a temple. It had five lingas named as Nagareawara, Nageshwara, Choleswara, Karneswara, Kali Kamateswara. There are five distinct temples and all temples had Nandis. Here Goddess is worshipped as Parvathi. The temple is situated right next to Begur lake. The temple has ample parking space and there is no special charges by the temple community. Ideal place for kids and family.. But avoid going on peak sun as the walking paths would be so hot. Visiting time Daily: 06:00 - 19:30
