★ ★ ★ ★ ★ This Patalesvar temple at Paikapada is a beautiful complex of Hindu temples from the 7th to 9th-centuries.
The oldest temple here includes the famous Lakulisa relief seated in a Yoga posture with a serene smile – this is from the 7th-century, Other temples were added through about 850 AD. The oldest and the largest temple is dedicated to Shiva, while the complex includes Odiya Hindu art related to Vishnu and Shakti goddesses. Wall panels present the iconography of Vedic gods such as Surya and Brahma.
The site is in a scenic area, the complex next to a historic pond (pushkarini, kunda, kalyani) with flowers, with hills of the Eastern Ghats in the distance. The Pataleswar temples complex is one of the largest and the most beautiful in Koraput area of Odisha.
