Prime Minister inaugurates intensive Mission Indradhanush Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the intensive Mission Indradhanush on 8 October 2017 in Vadnagar, Gujarat. He said that through this program, the Government of India has targeted to reach every child of the age of two years and those pregnant mothers who have not been able to get this facility under the vaccination program. Key facts: As part of the special campaign, more than 90 percent of targeted immunization has been targeted in selected districts and states by December 2018 to improve vaccination access. Under Mission Indradhanush, a target of complete immunization by 2020 has been set. 90 percent of the areas have to be covered under this. Earlier, the target of complete immunization, increase in coverage was 1 percent every year. Mission Indradhanush has registered an increase of 6.7 percent per annum in immunization in the first two phases. The Prime Minister appealed to the people to adopt a program to prevent maternal and infant mortality and to support the government in this direction. Under the four phases of Mission Indradhanush, 2.53 crore children and 68 lakh pregnant women have been provided life saving vaccines. Of these, 5.21 lakh children and 1.27 lakh pregnant women are from Gujarat. Every month between October 2017 and January 2018, under the Mission Mission Indradhanush, the highest priority districts and 173 districts in urban areas, 121 districts in 16 states and 17 cities and 52 districts in 8 northeastern states will continue to undergo continuous vaccination. The Intensive Mission Indradhanush program will be conducted in select areas in districts and urban areas where vaccination has been reduced. This area will be decided on the basis of national survey, health management information system data and data received from World Health Organization. In urban slums and sub-centers migrating from one place to another, special attention will be paid to areas where vaccination is either not done or its percentage is very low. Special focus will be on urban settlements and cities under the National Urban Health Mission. Intensified Mission Indradhanush To improve the immunization coverage, inter-ministerial and inter-departmental coordination, action based review management and intensive monitoring and accountability system will be adopted so as to achieve the goal of effective immunization in the targeted areas. 11 other Ministries and Departments are also extending their support in this program. The Ministry of Women and Child Development, Panchayati Raj, Urban Development, Youth Affairs and other Ministries have given their support in the intensive Mission Indradhanush program. This program will be implemented effectively through various people working at the ground level.
