A must visit place to experience the history of Maharashtra. A fort that was made within just 2years by the great king Chatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. Beautiful view from the top. Little difficult to trek with children or elders as the climb can be a little steep.

Amongst the most iconic forts in maharastra if u are in mahabaleshwar do visit this fort it is a 45 min to 1 hr route do visit the fort during early morning or evening time cause sometimes the heat won't be bearable. When u are the fort do opt for a guide there are 20 points of fort which will be explained by the guide and he will charge u 300rs. Around 400 to 450 steps are there to climb i will suggest one thing tht while climbing have some chaas or kokum juice o lime water so that u wont get that exhausted. Carry cash while u visit here cause some vendors may not have gpay phonepay etc.

The only fort built by Chattrapati Shivaji Maharaj. Worth a visit when you are in Mahabaleshwar. There are guides available at the entrance of the fort so you not need to worry. The guides are knowledgeable and tell brief history about this fort. The hike is normal, you won’t get tired. Enjoy your visit. :)

The geographic location of this fort is very precise. That gives an idea about the brainpower of the Great Maratha warrior Chatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. The great Battle of Pratapgad was fought here in 1659. You definitely need a tourist guide to show the fort and explain the history. That will also help you to live history for a while.

Pratapgad Fort meaning Valour Fort is a huge fort Located in the Satara district of Maharashtra. Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj builds the Pratapgad Fort. in 1656 With The Help of Moropant pingale, And he is not only the prime minister but, also to undertake the construction of this fort to defend the banks of the Nira and the Koyna rivers to defend the Par pass. This fort is popular for the famous battle of Pratapgad Fort fight between Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and Afzal Khan. Bhavani Mata Temple: The temple has a stately statue of Bhavani Mata, and this idol was taken by Maharaja by the Shaligram rock from the Gandaki River in Nepal. Alongside these idols is the crystal of Shivlinga. There are two lakes in the fort to the northeast of Balekil. From this point, the Koyna Valley offers a spectacular view and thus learned the geographical information of Pratapgad. At the top of the fort there is a bronze Shivaji Statue , inaugurated by Jawaharlal Nehru. This fort is maintained privately . Lots of food stalls you will get along the path . Entry charge was 300 INR when we visisted in 2018 Jan. A guide is must to visit the fort . Minimum 2 hours is required .

This fort is approximately 45 min journey from mahabaleshwar. Plan it in the morning time or after 4 pm for a pleasant weather. Make sure to book a guide from the base of the fort. The cost will be somewhere around Rs 300. The guide will make the whole trek interesting with many facts , historical dates , he will talk about the construction from a war point of view. And in no time you will reach at the top of the fort. There are some restaurants serving food and snacks in the fort. Make sure to try the churned buttermilk with extra froth. There is one artifact's museum/shop. Most of the things we do get at flea markets but yes as souvenirs there are many options here. There are many stalls selling tamarind, raw mango slices and berries . It reminded me of my school days . After school it was a ritual to buy it for Rs 1 to 5 and relish it on the way home. Do not carry snacks or tacky stuff in your hand as there are monkeys roaming around and they are good snatchers.

Looking at the history of this place and the value this place shall be well maintained and eatables shouldn't be allowed at the main fort. Place is nice to visit once - you can go in a car till the fort steps or have a treck with your friends either way I would recommend to go in winters. If you visit in summers you should come back till 9-10 am.

Absolutely grand. Best time to visit is EARLY MORNING. great food options on the fort.. superb souvenir shops.. the last souvenir shop at the top gives best deals. Guide recommended as we wouldn't know what we are looking at and why.. it's best to carry a bag to get back our trash. TO KEEP OUR FORTS CLEAN IS ENTIRELY OUR RESPONSIBILITY..
