The presiding deity in this temple is Sri Rajarajeswari Ammavaru. Devi Navaratrulu is the most festival celebrated in this temple.
It is believed that Sri Arul Jyothi Nagaraja Murthy Peetadhipathi of Sri Raja Rajeswari Peetam in Arcot district of Tamil Nadu was traveling to Vijayawada in 1965. He became tired and took rest at Durgamitta. While taking rest he felt the presence of Goddess Rajarajeswari Devi in the land opposite to him and asked the local peoples to construct a temple on the same land.
During Navaratrulu days, most people from surrounding area including Chennai visit this temple and light the lamp and they do pradhikshnam. Heavy rush during these days.
