β β β β β Google has partnered with various Indian smartphone handset makers to roll out Android Go phones from this month onwards.
Google has announced its ambitions Android Oreo (Go Edition) programme so that manufacturers can provide the latest operating system to ultra-budget-centric smartphones. Now, according to a report, Google has partnered with various Indian smartphone handset makers to roll out Android Go phones from this month onwards.
According to a report by Factor Daily, Google has partnered with Micromax, Intex, Lava, Karbonn, among others to launch budget smartphones based on its Android Oreo (Go Edition) operating system. The report further highlights that Micromax is expected to launch the first Android Go smartphone, which will be based on Android Oreo Go, in January. The brand is reported to launch the smartphone on Republic Day or around it. Interestingly, the upcoming smartphone will be priced around Rs 2,000.
The report further highlights that more manufacturers will launch Android Go smartphones as well. βWe expect Android Oreo (Go edition) devices to launch in early 2018,β said a Google company official, asking to stay anonymous told the publication.
If this is true then surely the Indian customers will be hugely benefited, especially, those who are looking to switch from feature phones to smartphones. However, it would interesting to see whether this programme will take off successfully or will it end up like Android One programme.
For the unintended, Google recently announced its ambitious Android Oreo Go edition . The Go edition was first announced at Google I/O 2017 and it meant for low-end devices that run with 512MB to 1GB of memory. The aim is to provide the latest Android updates to the masses and it will be available as a part of Android 8.1 release.
