राम : राम म्हणजे स्वतः आनंदात रममाण असलेला आणि दुसर्‍याना आनंदात रममाण करणारा.
रामचंद्र : रामाचा जन्म सूर्यवंशात झाला. त्याचा जन्म दुपारी १२ वाजता झाला, तरी त्याला रामभानु अशा तर्‍हेचे नावात सूर्य असलेले नाव दिले नाही. पुढे रामाने चंद्राचा हट्ट केल्याच्या प्रसंगावरून त्याला रामचंद्र हे नाव पडले असावे.
श्रीराम : दुष्ट रावणाचा वध करून आणि लंका जिंकून घेतल्यानंतर, म्हणजे स्वतःचे भगवंतपण दाखविल्यानंतर राम जेव्हा सीतेसह अयोध्येला परतला, तेव्हा सर्व अयोध्यावासी त्याला ‘श्रीराम’ म्हणू लागले.
