★ ★ ★ ★ ★ It was interesting to note that there were practically no foreign visitors while we were there. (Only one other group of Westerners) We had a guy who approached us and wanted to be our guide, so we allowed him, since for once we were open to having someone explain the sights to us.
The entire complex is massive, and has a carnival-like atmosphere despite it being a place of worship. A lot of people milling about, and people selling their wares -- marble carvings and textiles -- on the ground.
It was interesting to look at the various rooms for the teaching sessions, the gravestones, the prayer areas and the Tomb of Salim Chishti. As it is a place of worship that is still actively being used, it made us feel slightly uncomfortable to be looking around.
At some point our guide was also actively helping his 'friend' advertise his goods, which made us uncomfortable again, but we politely and firmly said no, and he did not pursue further.
We walked around the complex, but unlike Fatehpur Sikri, this place was a bit more hectic and not particularly peaceful. We would like more time to look at the architecture, but at times it felt like we were intruding in a private sanctuary, as there were women prostrating on the ground in some corners
