Across India, on contemporary poster art, Ganesha is depicted with Saraswati (goddess of culture and art) or Lakshmi (goddess of luck and prosperity) or both. Ganesha, Lakshmi and Saraswati are often associated as deities who are immediately responsible for material well-being.
Ganesha and Saraswati control the intellect (wisdom), while both Ganesha and Lakshmi are deities of Riddhi and Siddhi (physical and spiritual success). Especially in Maharashtra, Ganesh is associated with Sharda or Saraswati. Some people consider the two goddesses as one person and thus Ganesha's only wife, while others consider them as separate and one or both of them are married to Ganesha.
Lakshmi's connection with Ganesha is seldom linked to Lakshmi's technical tradition as Ganesha's power. Other reasons for their relationship are given in different ways: their functional similarity and their Diwali and joint worship by the "business community" in general. In Calcutta, on the other hand, Ganesha is said to be the brother of Saraswati and Lakshmi.
