β β β β β We were fortunate to encounter upon our arrival at golokdham ashram, vrindavan, Swami Gopal Sharan Devacharya, head of the charming Sri GolokΒ Dham in Delhi and Vrindavan and honored as Hinduism Todayβs Hindu of the Year, 2009. Entrusted to prominent saint Swami Lalita Sharan Devacharya at the tender age of four, Swamiji has a close association with the holy city. He lived here before going to Varanasi for higher education and returns periodically to, as he told us, βrecharge my batteries in the place where I did my sadhana and tapas.β He also oversees the ashram here, which is their main publishing center and where they have 24 brahmacharis engaged in Sanskrit study. Swamiji facilitated my meetings with many of the cityβs saints.
during another trip i also stayed at this ashram when i was accompanied by swami ji's successor brahmachari vraj vihari sharan. the ashram has spacious rooms, some of which are airconditioned. they have attached toilets. not just the food here which is taken as prasadam by the devotees, even the tea here is made chanting the name of lord krishna and is very tasty. adjacent to the ashram is their gau shala where the cows are taken care of in an affectionate manner. the ashram also runs a charitable homeopathy dispensary. i consulted the a senior physician there for my cough and congestion problem and was promptly given the medicines which proved very effective. an an average twenty to fifty people visit this dispensary. i would recommend anyone visiting vrindavan to visit golokdham ashram and try to have darshan of Swami Gopal Sharan Devacharya who keeps visiting here off and on. we also attended the evening aarti here before the darshan of swami ji and then had our prasadam. will never forget my visit to this great place of spiritual significance.
