- द्वापर युग में पांडवों को लाक्षागृह में जलाकर मारने की कोशिश नाकामयाब हो गई थी। पांडव अपना अज्ञातवास पूरा करने के लिए विराटनगर जा रहे थे। तभी यहां पर आकर उन्होंने आराम किया था।
- पांडवों की मां कुंती महादेव की भक्त थीं। उन्होंने यहां पर प्राकृतिक रूप से निकले शिवलिंग की पूजा की और बेटों के लिए प्रार्थना की। उसी समय से यहां पर भगवान तामेश्वर की पूजा-अर्चना की जाती है, जो आज भी जारी है।
