The temple of Sri Omkareshwar Mahadev is located in Kayatha, the birthplace of Sri Varahamihira. This temple is ancient. This Shivling is very miraculous. The size of this Shivling increases every year. Earlier Shivalinga was not seen from outside the temple. But with the increase in the size of Shivling, devotees can now take the benefit of darshan from outside the temple.

A Divine place dedicated Lord Shiva, in lndia there are twelve Lord Shiva's temples which are c known as Jyothirlingas and Omkareswar is situated on the banks holy river Narmada, on both sides of river Nirmada here at Omkareswar there are dozens of Shiva's temples. Narmada river is one of the longest rivers in lndia which flows from east to west covering two rich tradional states of lndia one is central lndian state of Madhya Pradesh and another one is western state of Gujarat both these states have hundreds of thousands hectares of fertile land thanks to river Narmada. In lndia Hindus believe and revere that every river as a mother and just taking a dip in the rivers holyof these rivers undoubtedly liberates souls. Once in a twelve years period a great gathering of Hindus takes place, at rivers these religious gatherings are called Kumbhmela in which millions of spiritual bent devotees throng from the all walks of life to perform rituals. Till this day these Kumbhmelas are the world's largest human congregations, every Hindu devotee always looks forward to participate in the Kumbhmela, perhaps this could be one of their best spiritual moments, people come from every nook and corner of the world including from the continent and new found lands to bask in the spiritual ambience prevails during Kumbhmela. Personally me too looking forward to participate in the coming Kumbh Melas.... To pay my respects yogis and saintly people who present during kumbhmela

It can only be termed as a blessing by the lords and mother nature, that Omkareshwar, the sacred island, is shaped like Om - the holiest symbol of Hinduism. It is adorned with lofty hills, between which the river Narmada forms a serene pool. A cantilever type bridge running over river Narmada. It is a 270 ft. hanging bridge that enhances the beauty of Omkareshwar. Out of the major places to visit in Omkareshwar, the Omkareshwar Jyotirlinga shrine tops the list. Popularly known as 'Omkar Mandhata', it is one of the 12 Jyotirlinga shrines in India.Pilgrims in unimaginable numbers visit the shrine every year, seeking the blessings of Lord Shiva. Apart from the Omkareshwar Jyotirlinga temple the three storey Gauri Somnath Temple which is built in the shape of a peahen is also a place to see. Joining the list are Mahakaleshwar temple, Ashapuri temple, Siddhanath temple, Khedapati Hanuman temple, Rinmukteshwar temple, Mamleshwar temple, Kashi Vishwanath temple and Kedareshwar temple. Also worth visiting in the holy town are Govindeshwar Caves where Adi Shankaracharya is said to have received enlightenment and the other one is Gurudwara Omkareshwar Sahib where Guru Nanak stayed during his visit to the city. Trip to Omkareshwar can be concluded by watching  Narmada meeting Kaveri at the sangam. The colourful ghats, rippling Narmada and divinity that reside in this town gives you many reasons to visit Omkareshwar once
