Shyampur High School, is located at Shyampur. It is 40 km (approximately) from Bankura and 5 km from Saltora. Shyampur High School is one of the oldest schools in Bankura District under Saltora subdivision. It was established in 1949, 2 years after the Indian independence. Shyampur High School is the oldest school of Saltora block. It is a Government Bengali medium higher secondary School under WBCHSE.

Shyampur High School is one of the largest schools of Howrah district. Not only that, it is considered one of the best performing schools in rural Howrah territory. It is affiliated with the West Bengal Board of Secondary Education and the West Bengal Council of Higher Secondary Education. This school is situated at the heart of Shyampur village. It is well connected by roadways. One can get down at Uluberia railway station and from there buses are available to cover a distance of about 30 km. to get down at Shyampur bus stop. Alternatively, one can get down at Bagnan railway station and take buses for the same stop which is distancing about 35 km. The school is just beside that bus stop. The SBSTC operates buses from Esplanade, Kolkata to Gadiara, Howrah those pass through this stop and thereby connect Shyampur directly with Kolkata with no vehicle change. There is Kamalpur-Barasat bus route also to catch with. In the era of British India, Shyampur was an undeveloped backward village area. But still at that time, Late Dwarakanath Pakhira, one of the leaders engaged in spreading the movement of education, felt the want of an organised educational institution. Therefore, he set up this school in the year 1884. In his honour and memory, every year the school celebrates his birthday ceremony on 12th of Bhadra (Bangabda Calendar). The school basically has two streams – general and vocational. The general stream has 29 teaching and 5 non-teaching staffs. There are approximately 800 students in secondary sections and 600 students in higher sections. Here, Science, Commerce and Arts – all the three options are available for higher secondary students to select. On the other hand, the vocational section of the school has 7 teaching staffs and student strength of 60, pursuing the Engineering & Technology course. Besides traditional subjects, school has introduced Physical Education in the year 2017 and Nutrition and Computer Application in the year 2018 looking the interest of the pupils of general stream. The school is meant for boys only from class 5 to 8 and for both boys and girls,i.e., co-educational beginning from class 9 and up to 12. The students of this school perform excellent in the secondary and higher secondary examinations conducted by the board. But, the academics are not all. The school inculcates the complete and overall development within its pupils. So, there are sports, cultural programmes, seminars etc. like events organised at regular interval for the betterment of students. Many ex-students from this institution are presently well settled and found established in life. The school has been awarded with The Best School Awards, 2014 out of the other schools in the district of Howrah, no doubt as a result of the diligent and dedicated contribution of the entire school team.
