★ ★ ★ ★ ★ MOOLAPET VENUGOPALA SWAMY KRISHNA TEMPLE
Mulapet, Nellore, AndhraPradesh
The Temple of Venugopala Swamy is situated in Hosa Kannambadi, Nearby Krisna Rajasagara, is yet another example for the Hoysala style of architecture in the state of Karnataka. The temple was constructed around the 12th century A.D. which is close to the time as the Chennakeseva Temple at Somnathapuram Mysore District. The temple was previously situated in the village of Kannambadi, which after the acceptance of the proposal of Krishna Raja Sagara had been shifted to a place which was called new Hoysala.
HISTORY
KRS dam was formulated in 1909, it was imperative for the temple to be submerged it, or for that matter, the entire hamlet of Kannambadi was entirely buried inside the water. Nevertheless, temple would have resurfaced when the level of water in the reservoir drops, this would happen at times of drought. The initial plan was to shift the entire locality at Madhuvana Park at Mysore but there were objection from the civilians of that place & they succeeded to convince the proposers to move it a nearby place in the reconditioned village. The value of the proposal was approximately around Rs 2.5 Crores. The new site was about 1km towards north of the primary site. To retain the originality of the temple, the indigenous architects shot videos & photos of the original temple, took more than 16,000 photographs, & every slab utilized for the construction of the aboriginal temple had been marked. Every stone was dismantled & constructed again in Hosa Kannambadi by trained artisans & sculptors, with six experts belonging to Tamil Nadu in the reconstruction of the temple. In 2011, the restoration of the temple got completed, but was awaiting inauguration. It has however, now become a tourist spot considering it a story of relocation & submersion.
