St. Thomas' Church School, Howrah - Howrah

Well, it was my school 29 years back. Much has changed and had to change in time.Excepting the main building and the church the school premises now exhibits a much-different look with added sections and refurbished decor. Being centrally located in the prime area, I like many, have had to pass by the school in the Church Road many a time. And I felt I was really lucky having studied in a school situated in such a venue, as Church Road is still by far a quieter place, comfy among quieter buildings and trees.Well, it never appeared to me in my school days. A sense of belonging or nostalgia engulfs me... I get to hear that unlike our days the 158-year-old school has geared up to the tune that is needed now. I and my co-learners had witnessed some downs in the school administration resulting in a downgrade in learning experience, not to speak of other activities needed to enhance the students' overall experience. For me, this school was and is synonymous with a few of its the-then faculty like Mr Ambert (also the Principal), Mr S K Biswas, Mr Samuel, Mr S P Mukherjee and Mr Halsona. Some of them are dead now. These were the persons who vastly mattered for me for reason more than one.But they were terrific teachers, you simply cannot sidestep them. I was in touch with Mr Halsona long after I left school.He showed us with care and concern how to approach different forms of writing and make way for compelling communication. This is not to belittle what the others did, but some will make a difference. We then had Principals--- Mr Cameron, MR Jordan, Mr Benjamin. But I don't remember a single students' meet with any of them. For me the school head was someone highly inaccessible, to be avoided. The school never cared to intervene in enhancing learning joy, it ill-cared about a student who flunked out or did not do well in academic performance. Some of my peers with good results might speak differently, and I care a fig as to what they have to say.We were very low on non-curricular activities. I never felt the school could be anybody's 'second home'. It was all drudgery barring some intermittent pleasures. Well, it seems now something has changed for the better.The school has become student-friendly. The former Principal and Mr Daniels, currently heading the school, have provided a shot in the arm towards an upgrade. Experience tells me that schooling is something not done successfully by all schools. But schools are very important in our lives. I do have some laments, but no malice against my alma mater.The good news is that the school is not cringing in its functions, it is moving towards to become a centre of excellence like some others. Perhaps, soon it will think of interdisciplinary skills and creative solutions for its pupils instead of zoning out on worldwide changes. Being one of the oldest and prestigious schools in Howrah with ample infrastructure, will ST. Thomas' Church School now think anew and ahead? For, like all of its alumni, I would then go gaga about it. And all this to say I loved my school for some of my teachers.

If I had the option to give zero rating to this worst school then I would definitely give negative rating worst school in howrah with worst faculty.

I am posting this review as an ex-student of STCS. I started studying in this school from my 6th standard(2011) and passed my ISC exams in 2018. Believe me it's not at all a good school. If you have got a chance please get your child admitted to some other school. Even government schools are better than this school.

I understand that this pandemic is a difficult time but it's difficult for everyone of us! Junior school teachers are so unreliable and uncooperative. Everytime I try to get to them regarding some school related problems they make thousands of excuses to make it seem like it was my child's fault. This is really disappointing from a good school.

Except Monday and Tuesday this place is very good.

It was 12 years journey since I was 6 years old, lots and lots of experiences we had on our schooling days, teachers are the most beloved friend we had...I personally love my school to the fullest. Today, every pages I turn of our academic magazine remind me of the bulging activities from the lectures to the beats of drum & the Rhearsals before a program. So whatever you given us is one of the most cherishing memory we will ever had.
