Delhi richest state, Jain community wealthiest: NFHS-4 wealth index The fourth round of the National Family and Health Survey (NFHS-4) report has prepared a wealth index. This index is based on the ownership of consumer products (eg TV, bike) and the availability of household items such as drinking water. This index has been prepared based on the marks given on the availability of these items in the households. The survey was carried out in 2015-16 over 6 lakh homes. Key facts: According to this index, Delhi and Punjab are the richest states in the country. 60 percent of the people living in these two states have their own houses. This is followed by Goa where 54.5% of the people have their own house. Bihar is at the bottom in this case. More than half of the people living here do not have their own house. As far as the specific community is concerned, the Jain community is the richest in the country. 70 per cent of the population of this community has their own house. This is followed by the people of the Sikh community (59.6%). At the same time, there is not much difference between the Hindu and Muslim communities in this matter when it comes to the national distribution of property. An analysis of the information gathered during the survey revealed that the number of households belonging to upper castes is almost double that of any other caste group. In this case, the condition of Scheduled Tribes (ST) people is worst. The results of the survey also said that poverty in the country is mainly a problem of rural areas. 29% of the country's rural population is the poorest, while in urban areas this figure is just 3.3%. While Delhi and Punjab are the most prosperous states in the country, Bihar is the poorest state. High levels of income and wealth inequality are a matter of concern in India.
