★ ★ ★ ★ ★ It's a 253 yrs old heritage office. Mainly topographical maps are prepared here. Open series maps are sold to public as well as some political maps and guide maps. Precise control points are supplied from this office as indented by different organisation. Different types of hydro projects are surveyed and prepare maps. From field survey to final printing of maps are done here in all respect. If you attend this office on 28th February every year (entry open for all) celebrated as Science Day you can watch the all the different steps followed to print the maps from the scratch. That is Arial photographs, field survey, photogrammetry, digitisation with GIS and final printing. All employees are very talented, experianced and co-operated. It is an office of Central Government under the department of science & technology. The address of the office is 13 Wood Street, Kolkata 700016. It is the geo spatial data centre of West Bengal & Sikkim. It is well known through road and it is also accessible through Metro railway service as Park Street & Maidan stations are not far away from here.

& various Project Maps using Satellite Imageries with latest Technology .Preserving digital database .
This is the only department where without having FUSION Test no candidate used to get job though he/she stood first in written Test and as such he/she will not be allowed to appear in Oral/Interview for final selection for the post he/she applied for. .

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ It's India's oldest government office established in 1767. The building of Survey of India holds heritage status and is an architectural wonder in terms of strength and stability. There is a plan to open a museum there for local public to visit. Meanwhile one can collect maps from it's Maps sales office and can visit the office during National Science Day.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ It is not Geological Survey of India.. It's simply Survey of India Institute and hence most of the people get misguided while searching on Google Maps.. I too visited the place But unfortunately when reached the spot found that it's Survey of India only..!! A huge mistake from Google Map India..
