Tarapith Maha Sasan is a Hindu cremation ground, very near to the famous Tarapith Temple. It is very auspicious place for the Hindus as the legend says that the Third Eye of "Sati" had fallen here and it is recognized as one of the 52 Peeths (where pieces from the dead body of "Sati" had fallen). Thus this is a place that reflects a lots of supernatural and extraordinary powers. It is well known for the Tantric rituals performed here. It is said that Goddess Tara prevails here in the form of a twinkling of light, like a "Star" or Tara in Hindi, Sanskrit, Bengali and other languages, a fearsome Tantric aspect of Adhya-Shakti. Maharishi Vashistha the Guru of Lord Ramachandra had performed rituals or rites over here in order to attain siddha or “perfection" in viewing the deity and obtain her blessing, from Goddess Tara who began to be associated with Tantric rituals following the order of Panchamakar Vidhi or Sadhana . Worshipping with five elements, namely, Wine, Meat, Fish, Parched Grain and finally Sexual intercourse is called a Panchamakar Sadhana. Worship of some Gods in Hinduism, those who have Taamsi or Tamo (destructive) qualities require this method of worship, to get rid of desire from within human beings. It is also said that it is pretty easy to attain accomplishment by worshiping here. Tantrik rituals of were practiced here by famous 'Matri Sadhak' Shri Shri Bama Khayapa renowned as Bam Dev. All these makes it an eerie place at night specially when a funeral pyre is lit. But then one also tends to become philosophical about life and death. A good place to experience such phenomenon.

Tarapith Mahashashan gets in a new look, adminstration worked a lot in here. More devotees are coming to visit here. The entrance is too narrow, please authority should look after the following matter.

Maha samshan. Here fire lights up 24*7 it's the amazing fact. Everyday at least a dead body must come in this Maha samshan. That's why fire lights up 24 hours.

The cremation ground (Mahashashan), amidst dark forest surroundings, is located on the river side at the end of town limits, away from the village life and practices of the Bengali social order. In Bengal, the cremation ground of Tarapith is also considered integral to the Shakti pith. It is believed that goddess Tara can be seen in shadows drinking blood of goats which are sacrificed every day at her altar, to satiate her anger and seek favours. Tantric practitioners believe that Tara is attracted to bones and skeletons and the cremation ground is her preferred residence

Tarapith Burning ?Ghat is a very interesting place where there is a form at day and a different form during the night. There are many stories about it, but I have seen a lot of colorful forms. If you want to see Tarama Temple, you must go once.???
