জগজ্জয়ী কামান
পশ্চিমবংগের মুর্শিদাবাদ
রেলষ্টেশন থেকে দেড় কিলোমিটার উত্তর-পুর্বে বহরমপুর লালগোলা রাজ্য সড়কের পাশে বিশাল কাটরা মসজিদ।এই ঐতিহাসিক মসজিদ থেকে এক কিলোমিটার দক্ষিণ -পুর্বে গোবরা নালার তীরে আছে একটি তোপখানা। এই তোপখানার দোরগোড়াতেই মাথা উঁচু করে তাক করা আছে জগজ্জয়ী কামান। এই কামানটি হচ্ছে আমাদের ঢাকার শাণ।
সাড়ে ১৭ ফুট লম্বা বিশালকায় এই কামানটি রাজধানী ঢাকার মোগল সুবাদার ইসলাম খানঁ চিশতীর আমলে ঢাকার বিখ্যাত অস্ত্রবিশারদ জনার্দন কর্মকার নির্মাণ করেন দীর্ঘ এগার মাস

One and a half kilometers northeast of the railway station is the huge Katra Mosque on the side of Bahrampur Lalgola State Road. At the door of this artillery, there is a huge cannon with its head held high. This cannon is our weapon.
The 18-foot-tall cannon was built by Janardan Karmakar, a famous Dhaka arsenalist, during the reign of Mughal Subaddar Islam Khan Chishti of the capital Dhaka for eleven months.
Working tirelessly. Do you know the wonder? Not a single point of this cannon has rusted.
Never rusted in the history of Dhaka.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ তোপখানা আসলে অনেকের কাছে জাহানকোষা নামে পরিচিত। জাহানকোষা হল পশ্চিমবঙ্গের মুর্শিদাবাদের কাটরার দক্ষিণ-পূর্বে তোপখানায় অবস্থিত একটি ঐতিহাসিক কামান। মধ্যযুগীয় বাংলার নবাবী আমলের যুদ্ধাস্ত্রের এটি একটি উল্লেখযোগ্য নিদর্শন। 'জাহান কোষা' শব্দের অর্থ হল 'পৃথিবীর ধ্বংসকারী'।
কামানটির দৈর্ঘ্য ১৭ ফুট ৬ ইঞ্চি, পরিধি ৫ ফুট, ওজন ২১২ মণ; কামান বিস্ফোরণের জন্য ২৮ সের (১৭ কিলো) বারুদের প্রয়োজন হয়। কামানটি তৈরী করা হয়েছিল অষ্ট ধাতু অর্থাৎ সোনা, রূপা, দস্তা, তামা, জিঙ্ক, টিন, লোহা ও পারদ দিয়ে; অষ্ট ধাতু দিয়ে তৈরী হবার জন্য আজও কামানটি মরচে বিহীন।
কামানের গায়ে ইরানী ভাষায় একাধিক পিতল-ফলকের লেখা থেকে জানা যায়, ১৬৩৭ খ্রিষ্টাব্দের অক্টোবর মাসে (১০৪৭ হিজরী, জমাদিয়স সানি মাস) দিল্লির বাদশাহ শাহজাহানের রাজত্বকালে ইসলাম খাঁর সুবাদারিতে জাহাঙ্গীরনগরে দারোগা শের মহম্মদ ও হরবল্লভ দাস উভয়ের তত্ত্বাবধানে মিস্ত্রি জনার্দন কর্মকার জাহানকোষা কামানটি নির্মাণ করেন।
নবাব মুর্শিদকুলি খাঁ ঢাকা থেকে রাজধানী মুর্শিদাবাদে স্থানান্তরিত করবার সময় ওই কামানটি এখানে নিয়ে আসেন। মুর্শিদকুলি খাঁ থেকে পরবর্তী অন্যান্য নবাবগণ এখানে তাদের অস্ত্রাগার বা ‘তোপখানা’ স্থাপন করেন। সেসময় জাহান কোষা কামানটিকে, একটি অশ্বথ গাছের শিকড়ে আটকে থাকা অবস্থায় পাওয়া গিয়েছিল। পরবর্তীকালে, ভারতীয় প্রত্নত্বাত্তিক বিভাগের উদ্যোগে, এই কামানটিকে গাছের শিকড় থেকে ছাড়িয়ে সরিয়ে নিয়ে যাওয়া হয়।
Artillery is actually known to many as Jahankosha. Jahankosha is a historic cannon located in the artillery southeast of Katra in Murshidabad, West Bengal. It is a significant example of the weapons of the Nawabi period of medieval Bengal. The word 'Jahan Kosha' means 'destroyer of the earth'.
The cannon is 18 feet 6 inches long, 5 feet in circumference, and weighs 212 pounds; Cannon detonation requires 26 ser (18 kg) of ammunition. The cannon was made of eight metals অর্থাৎ gold, silver, zinc, copper, zinc, tin, iron, and mercury; The cannon is still rust-free, made of eight metals.
It is known from the inscriptions on the cannon that during the reign of King Shahjahan of Delhi in October 1638, under the supervision of Islam Khan, Daroga Sher Mohammad and Harballabh Das were in charge.
Nawab Murshid Quli Khan brought the cannon here while transferring the capital from Dhaka to Murshidabad. Other Nawabs after Murshid Quli Khan set up their arsenal here. At that time, the Jahan Kosha cannon was found stuck in the roots of an ash tree. Later, at the initiative of the Indian Archaeological Department, the cannon was removed from the roots of the tree.
