A soothing vibration at this ashram. Its sad the great big banyan tree was damaged by the winds during the cyclone in Puri. However the small alcove in the tree where Totapuri used to initiate devotees is still intact. The temple is well maintained. The room where Totapuri used to sleep is to the side. Wish more people would visit this holy place.

few locals even know the girnaribant address; it is near loknath temple (more commonly known place). They say Baba died in 1961!! There are no disciples continuing his legacy there as such. Shree Totapuri lived with Shree Ramakrishna Paramhans for 8 months.

Totapuri Baba is also known as Nanga Baba, Nangtababa, Nagababa, Languli Baba, Digambar Baba, Kankaria Baba etc.He was born likely in Hinglaj now in Baluchistan, Pakistan. He was a Parivrajaka or a wandering monk, who followed the path of the of Advaita Vedanta . It is said that Totapuri taught Sri Ramakrishna Paramhansa that the sole reality of the impersonal Absolute could only be realized in a state of consciousness devoid of all conceptual forms. He also had initiated Shri Ramakrishna in the higher technique of Nirvikalpa Samadhi. To Shri Ramakrishna, Totapuri was “a teacher of masculine strength, a sterner mien, a gnarled physique, and a virile voice”, and addressed him affectionately as Nyangta, the “Naked One”, because as a renunciate he did not wear anything. This is the place where he lived the last 40 years of his life. He attained Mahasamadhi in August 1961. He was a saint of highest order and had mastery over all forms of Sadhana. There is a banyan tree inside the ashram where he would spend a lot of time engrossed in meditation. It is an ideal place for spiritual seekers to engage themselves in meditation and contemplation.

The ADVAITA Brahma Ashram was formed by the tri-centurain ADVAITA Saint, the naked Sanyasi who spent around 40 - 50 years of yogic life in Puri. He is famously known as Sri Sri Jogeswar Brahmabit Barista Digambar Paramhansh Maharaj and in short Nanga Baba Totapuri or Languli Baba. The Sadhu is supposed to have lived for more than 300 years. A votary of Naga- Abdhut cult, he headed the Naga Math ( Naga Monastry ) in Ludhiana now in the Punjab State. He had widely travelled major parts of India and parts of Brahmadesh, and even beyond Himalayas on foot only. This widely travelled Tri-centurian is said to have come in contact with Santh Tulasi Das( 1646-1737) Mahayogi Gorkhanath Mahavtar Babaji Mahasaya, Tailang Swamy (1607 -1887) Bamkhepa ( 1837-1887), and Sri Sai Nath of Siridi (1836-1918), Swami Nigamananda Saraswati and Sri Rama Krishan Paramhans Hansaji etc. Apart from covering all holi places the Tri-centurian Nanga Sayasi also said to have covered the longer course of river Sindhu, Ganga, Brahaputra, Narmanda and Godavari and Krishna in the Deccan plateau.
