★ ★ ★ ★ ★ After researching online and reading some good reviews, I took some time-off from work to get some shine back on the rusty looking chrome parts of my Yamaha RX 135 bike. The parts are as listed below. There was an African looking guy at the desk, who spoke English in an African accent. He called the owner (Mr. Giri I believe) and explained to him the parts that need to be chromed.
I was shocked and surprised to get a quotation of Rs. 3995. Now I'm sure there are people who are willing to pay that kind of money, however, for me, I thought there must have been a mistake. So I spoke to the guy on the phone to make sure I understood correctly, however, I was disappointed with the arrogance at the other end. When I explained that I can get new parts for less than the cost of chrome, Mr. Giri suggested that I can go ahead if they are available. Just to give some perspective here, a new Yamaha RX 135 handle bar will cost around Rs. 300-400, and it will cost you Rs. 900 to get a old handle from your bike to get chromed at Vijaya Lakshmi Electroplating.
Perhaps, Mr. Giri has a lot of business from other sources or maybe he just doesn't want to help out passionate people who care about their bikes and are willing to travel from one corner of the city to another to give the best their bikes deserve. Whatever his motives are, it's a real shame that after reading so many good reviews, I'm left disappointed.
I explained to Mr. Giri over the phone that paying almost Rs. 4000 for a few old rusty parts doesn't make sense, and he replied that the cost of electricity, and other material that goes into making chrome doesn't add up for him to do it for any less. Perhaps that's true, after all he is in the business and I have 0 knowledge about chrome. Good luck to him! I left his place of business saying: "Sorry for wasting your precious time".
