Visakhapatnam port trust is one of the best ports in India and handling 34.1 Million tons per annum cargos. It is having Inner harbor and outer harbor and housing 22 berths in both harbors. It is separate environment cell to monitor pollution control activities. VPT has provided tarpaulin coverings over dusty cargos and MDSS (mechanical dust suppression system ) to avoid fugitive emissions. It has provide mechanized cargo handling to avoid air pollution in interface of residential areas. Road wetting is also being done. Green belt development is also to be taken up where ever possible. There is one Venkateswara temple, Rose church and one masjid available on three hillocks. There is view point near rose church and from there one see the over view of city. One important thing is VPT is treating sewage and treated sewage is being used for dust suppression inside VPT area.Still VPT has to take care of air pollution , as it is located nearer to residential areas.

Dirty port main road. The potholes near chavulamadam are not repaired for many months. Vehicles jamming here in the peak hours new drivers running into the pits. All the chemical dust falling on the road shall ultimately fly into the air and goes to the lungs of people. Frequent cleaning by suction cleaners could have solved the problem very easily. They are filling lungs with solid pollutants and planting trees roadside.

Visakhapatnam Port has three harbours – the outer harbour, inner harbour and the fishing harbour. The outer harbour has 6 berths capable of handling vessels with a draft up to 17 meters while the smaller inner harbour has 18 berths that are Panamax compatible. Vizag Seaport owns two berths in the inner harbour; berth EQ-8 is fully mechanised and berth EQ-9 berth is not. The Dolphin's Nose Hill to the north of the entrance channel protects the harbour from cyclones that strike the east coast.[2][3] The port is located on the area of a creek through which the coastal river Narava Gedda joins the sea.
