Yadavindra Public School, is located in Patiala, Punjab, India. Considered among the top rung of Indian Public Schools, Yadavindra Public School, Patiala , popularly known as YPS Patiala, is an English Medium Co-Educational Boarding-cum-Day school founded in 1948 by the late His Highness Maharaja Adhiraj Yadavindra Singh. Over the last seven decades, YPS has grown to a student strength of 1400 and staff strength of 100. The school prepares students for the Indian Certificate of Secondary Education (Class X) and the Indian School Certificate (Class XII) Examinations conducted by the Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations, New Delhi, which is successor to the Local Examinations Syndicate of the Cambridge University (UK).
YPS is a member of the Indian Public Schools' Conference and is affiliated to CISCE.
Other important bodies the school is a member of are the International Round Square, IAYP ( International Award for Young People ), NSS ( National Service Scheme ), NCC ( National Cadet Corps) , AFS ( American Field Service ) , YFU ( Youth for Understanding ) and the British Council.
The YPS , Patiala, Board of Governors is headed by Captain Maharaja Amarinder Singh as the patron and Raja Malvinder Singh as its Chairman . Other members of the board are highly qualified , successful and renowned people from different walks of life- politicians to former and present bureaucrats , academicians , defence personnel , senior police officers, legal luminaries and prominent old Yadavindrians.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ The genesis of YPS, as a matter of fact, lies in the Aitchison College, Lahore (the only Public School in Pre-Partition Punjab), which is closely related to, bears a contrast to, and has to play a great role in making of our school.
This was the college not for all, but only for scions of princes and potentates, lords and aristocrats. His Highness the late Maharajadhiraj Yadavindra Singh of Patiala, from whose august name this school derives its significance, was also a student of this college and later a member of its Board of Governors. But he was against restrictions in admission of boys to Aitchson College and had an idea of opening a public school at Patiala which would be open to all, irrespective of caste, creed or colour. However, this idea somehow could not be translated into reality.
