★ ★ ★ ★ ★ The cultural research institute is an organization under the backward classes welfare department, govt. of West Bengal. Various govt. Projects (by Ministry of Tribal Affairs) run by this institute. It has museum in the ground floor, having different handicrafts and puppets from different regions of our country. Other 3 floors are for official works. It has a library and reading room on the 1st floor, if anyone wants to have some good reads about scheduled tribes and scheduled caste societies, can access the library with the director's and the librarian's permission.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ A glorious past comes alive. Boat museum, inside Ambedkar Bhawan in Kankurgachi, is one and only museum in India.Bengal is the first state in the country to have a boat museum.
An album on boats titled The Heritage Boats of Bengal was also released on the occasion.
The Boat Museum will have 46 models of boats including ones that were used during the Harappan civilization as well as boats in Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Bengal and Bangladesh.
Bengal being primarily a land of waterways, boating is bound to be the principal means of all purpose of life. Boating used to be an important profession of the people.

A very good library with many important and old books available which are not available in the market. Anyone can come and read here and do thier research work studies in the library.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Nice quaint place especially the Boat museum which is one of its kind The different types of boats used in Bangladesh and different districts of West Bengal, the small replicas in different types of wood with detailed description is one of its kind. The other enclosure of Nakshi kantha or thread needlework which is an old handicraft of Bengal is breath taking. Some of the hand work pieces are big and dates back to more than hundred years and is curated with great care.
There is a small place to buy handicrafts though currently sales is closed
The museum is open from 10 am to 5 pm except Mondays and is free.
