Anjuman Taraqqi Urdu (Hind) popularly known as Urdu Ghar, was established by Sir Syed Ahmad Khan in 1886 as part of his educational movement at MAO College, now Aligarh Muslim University. When the Urdu-Hindi controversy was at its peak, Sir Syed’s efforts bore fruit in an education commission, namely the historic Hunter commission also known as Education Commission (1882) and the organization that took shape in 1886 consisted of a group of like-minded individuals who wanted to avoid hatred in the name of one language that was splitting into two. So, the Anjuman is the most important, oldest and most historical language organization in the country……..

After 1947, Dr Zakir Hussain become the Vice Chancellor of Aligarh Muslim University and shifted it in 1949. Later in 1977 ATU (H) shifted to its present place in Delhi known as Urdu Ghar.
