It's an semi-underground mall-type market very good for shopping in household electronics appliances, kitchen appliances, readymade dresses, beauty & nutrition items, gift items and miscellaneous item. Has many good food stalls for snacking during shopping. Outside this market in footpath there are hundreds of sellers selling gift to ornaments in very cheap rate. Don't forget to bargain!

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ It is the original New Market of Kolkata. Lots of small shops or stalls are devided in Alphabetical series. The prices of articles found here is bit more costly. But the shops are unique in its range, variety and stocks. There are mainly five categories of shops- cosmetics and bags,inner garments, dried fruit items and lozenges and flower shops.. . .. None has to roam all the counters to pick up his/her favorite item.I think the there is less chance of bargaining here. Cards are accepted in almost all the shops.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Market is good but the behavior of the shop keepers are a bit rude. Buy thing cearfully, other wise they will make u fool. The back side of the market smells really weird. I prefferd new market for shopping than ss hog market.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Popularly Known as the S.S Hogg market, this place was named after a famous British Civil servant Sir Stuart Hogg.
This market was opened on 1 st January 1874 to mostly british elite but then soon became famous betewwn the local people.
This market has about 2000 shops regsitered but I'm sure there are many un registered as well.
This place is Midway on the Lindsay street, the front side is now an under ground mall known as Simpark mall and there is underground parking available there as well.

It is one of the busiest market in town but a single visit is worth every hassle as it is a one stop shop for every conceivable item you need.
Books, clothes, confectionery etc.
Placed in a colonial building would give you a rusty heritage glimpse.
The nearby area is also rich in street food etc.
I suggest you bargain to the extent you can.
