โ โ โ โ โ Since time immemorial, India has attracted visitors with an almost magnetic intensity. The medieval world regarded India as a metaphor for all that was exotic and rich beyond compare; India attracts, seduces and enchants with a unique combination of sights, sounds and sensations. Whatever it is you want from a holiday you'll find it in India. There are royal palaces, abandoned cities, monuments and desert fortresses, temples, beach resorts, hill stations, mountains, lakes, and some of the best wildlife reserves in the world.

โ โ โ โ โ Totally unprofessional, definitely not up to European standards. Made our time in India a hell, 15 days of worrying: from unscheduled flights, to unpaid hotels and everyday changes in the schedules and things to see. Very bad guides in Delhi, Varanasi and Goa.

โ โ โ โ โ This company is the best tour company with whom I have travelled. They really help you plan your trip so be sure that you communicate what sort of trip you want. Then they make certain it happens. Glitches, and there always are some, are dealt with expeditiously and without any fuss. They supply you with a cell phone so that you can call at any time for any reason and they are always there for you. Really, they are there for you. Even if you do not have a problem they will still check on how everything is going. If the phone is not on, they will reach you through your guide or driver. Bottled water is always in the car. We travelled practically over the whole of India from Delhi, Amritsar, Nepal and Varanasi and south through to Chennai. Hotel selection was excellent. We had major hotels and charming boutique hotels. Drivers are careful, and guides all spoke excellent English except for one. We were exceedingly lucky in that even though we had not asked for it, they scheduled a visit to the Tiger Reserve Ranthambore. We actually got to see three tigers in the one day. Most guides are pretty chatty about themselves, so if possible ask for male and female guides. We had guides who were Muslim, Hindu, Christian and Parsi, and one lady guide. They all had different perspectives on life. My only regret is that this company only does India, Nepal and associated countries like Bhutan. It is too bad they do not do the rest of the world

โ โ โ โ โ We had traveled with Compass Tours twice--in 2003 and 2007--and received excellent service and fair pricing. We never thought to check recent reviews when booking them for our third trip in the fall of 2018. That was an unfortunate mistake on my part as there are now many negative reviews on many different sites. On two occasions, inferior and less expensive hotels than what we had paid for were substituted at the last minute. The most distressing for us were the complications in Darjeeling. We were put in a very unsatisfactory property and when we wanted to leave a day early for Kolkata no one at Compass would help us. We made and paid for our own air reservations and paid for an early arrival at the Oberoi in Kolkata. We were told to do this and that we would be reimbursed.
All together we were due a refund of close to $2000 for the difference in hotel prices, "included" features on the tour we never received, and the cost to make the change to our itinerary when we left Darjeeling early.
We were assured by Mr. Sengupta as well as his assistant Radika that a full refund would be forthcoming. They freely admitted that we were due the money and I have the emails to prove that. The last email I have is from December 9, 2018 stating the money should be in my account by Christmas. It is now February 25, 2019 and I've given up hope.
Do not trust old reviews. I had sung their praises for many years and never expected that I would be taken advantage of in this way. I'm not sure if they are having financial difficulties or have just gotten greedy, but they are not to be trusted.

โ โ โ โ โ EXCEPTIONAL.....if you are looking for a travel company to make the most of a trip to India, stop right here. We booked a 17 day trip from Mumbai to New Dehli via Udaipur, Jojawar, Jodhpur, Jaipur, Agra, Khajuraho and Varanassi. We chose the upper tier hotel package which was well worth the extra money. I cannot recommend this company enough. After 30 years of travelling at every level this team ranks number one! I looked at Trip Advisor where there was surprisingly little information or reviews. This made me a little suspicious so I chose to check out all their references. After a few emails I had no hesitation in booking through them. Following the trip I have even less in writing them a stellar review. When we return to India, which I hope will be soon, there is absolutely no question who I will be calling. I am sure there are other excellent companies out there, but why would I bother looking when I have found such an exceptional team. Starting with unbelievably helpful office staff, , top notch guides mostly with Masters degrees in Indian history, best quality vehicles and exceptional divers (a must in India), best quality hotels, flexibility of itinerary, even last minute changes!
Visit India? Absolutely!! I recommend a company for all or part of the trip and I would choose Compass India Inc to plan and organise. Incredible India, a must for anyone who enjoys travelling. I would happily include families with children 10 years and above.

โ โ โ โ โ I used Compass India five years ago for a one month tour of Rajasthan. It was the perfect trip in all ways. A-1, first class service. Based on this experience I used the services of Compass again for a three week tour, from which I have just returned. I donโt know what happened to the company but service was really terrible. I booked the trip in August 2017, and was told at that time that all selected hotels would be booked within two weeks.
From arrival at the airport when my traveling companion arriving from Australia was left lingering alone at the airport for more than 30 minutes, to discovering that four of our nine selected hotels had never been booked (leaving us to wonder where we would be sleeping the next night), it was nothing short of a disaster. None of our city guides had any idea of what we were supposed to see at each location, leaving us to share our itinerary with them, and in one instance the guide had no idea we were even scheduled to arrive until our driver called him when we were just outside the city.
In Varanasi, where we supposed to stay for four nights to give us three full days of sightseeing we were told on the afternoon of our first day that the hotel wanted us to check out because they needed our rooms for the visiting PM. When we checked with the hotel we were informed that this was untrue and that the reason we had to check-out the next morning was that Compass had only been able to reserve rooms for us for two nights because they only made the reservation the day before our arrival. We moved on to our next destination two days early, severely restricting our sightseeing in this most holy of cities.
This was a repeated story. We couldnโt stay at our selected hotel in Delhi because Netanyahu was staying there. Same for Varanasi due to the PM staying there. Same for our hotel in Dholpur where we allegedly couldnโt stay because there was a Bollywood production in progress. When I called the hotel manager in Dholpur I was told that he had never received a reservation from Compass in our names.
Panicked phones calls to Compass fell on deaf ears. We were told we would get a return call in ten minutes, but weโre still waiting for a response three days later. It simply went on and on.
This was certainly not the Compass I knew and which I had recommended to friends and lavishly praised. Thankfully, the company owner met us the evening before our departure and listened to our complaints with attention. He was apologetic in the extreme. This being said, it certainly didnโt compensate us for three weeks of distress. Nevertheless, I hope Mr. Sengupta is successful in bringing his company back up to its previous high standard of customer care.

โ โ โ โ โ My wife and I just returned from a tour of India for almost 4 weeks which was organized and arranged by the wonderful people at Compass. I must admit that I have never before used a travel company that was not from where I lived as in Canada we have government protection should something go wrong with any travel plans booked through a Canadian travel company and so I was very reluctant to book with Compass. I was referred to them by a friend who used them and was very happy with the service. On his recommendation I contacted them and they put together an itinerary for us that was amazing and was totally customized to what we were looking for. I paid them in full many months in advance as it saved me some money to do that. I must admit that I was nervous about doing that because it was quite a large amount. In any event, when I arrived in Delhi, there was the sign with my name on it and my trip had begun. I can't begin to explain just how impressed I am at how efficient and how well organized they are as every single little detail of my itinerary was exacted and then some. The hotels they picked for me where palatial and far exceeded my expectation. All guides were terrific. The all spoke English and were very knowledgeable in what we were seeing. The drivers were all great and that is no easy task in India. If anyone is looking for a reliable group of travel experts for a tour of India or where ever else Compass handles, you can't find a better group and I would recommend them to anyone.
