ज्ञात हो कि बीएचयू के इतिहास विभाग में सहायक प्राध्यापक के पद पर कार्यरत्त डॉ राजीव श्रीवास्तव एक जाने माने समाजसेवी हैं । पिछले कई वर्षों से वे लगातार अलग अलग तरीकों से राष्ट्र निर्माण में अपनी भूमिका का निर्वहन कर रहे हैं । गर्मी की छुट्टियों में एक ओर जहाँ अन्य लोग अपने परिवार के साथ छुट्टियां व्यतीत करने हील स्टेशन और तीर्थस्थल का रुख करते हैं वहीं डॉ राजीव श्रीवास्तव ने समाजिक दृष्टि से सबसे पिछड़े लोगों के बीच गर्मी की छुट्टियों को बिता रहे हैं । छोटे छोटे बच्चों को पढ़ा कर उन्हें शैक्षणिक रूप से मजबूत बनाते हुए राष्ट्रवाद का पाठ भी पढ़ा रहे हैं। बच्चों को आज़ादी से जुड़ी कहानियों के साथ साथ सुभाष चन्द्र बोस जैसे महापुरुषों के विषय मे भी बताया जा रहा है ।
राजीव श्रीवास्तव अपने छात्र जीवन से ही समाज सेवा की ओर मुड़ गए थे । पहले भी अपने स्कॉलरशिप के पैसों से बच्चों को पढ़ाते थें । इसी क्रम में 1988 में उन्होंने विशाल भारत संस्था की स्थापना की । यह संस्था लगातार सामाजिक उननन्यन में अपनी भूमिका का निर्वहन कर रहा है संकट मोचन बम ब्लास्ट के बाद इसी संस्था के मुस्लिम महिलाओं ने हनुमान चालीसा का पाठ कर समाज को एक संदेश देने का प्रयास किया था ।
इसी संस्था के द्वारा अनाज बैंक जैसे प्रकल्प भी चलाये जा रहे हैं जो वाराणसी में काफ़ी चर्चित है ।
हमसे बातचीत के दौरान डॉ श्रीवास्तव ने कहा कि प्रोफेसनल लोग अपने प्रमोशन की चिंता करते हैं जबकि इमोशनल लोग समाज के प्रमोशन की चिंता करते हैं ।

It is to be known that Dr. Rajeev Srivastava, working on the post of Assistant Professor in the History Department of BHU, is a well-known social worker. For the last several years, they are continuously discharging their role in nation building in different ways. On the one hand, while others go to the Heal station and pilgrimage to spend the holidays with their family, Dr. Rajiv Srivastava is spending the summer holidays among the most socially backward people. By teaching small children, they are also teaching the lesson of nationalism by making them academically strong. Children are being told stories about freedom as well as great men like Subhash Chandra Bose.
Rajiv Srivastava turned to social service from his student days. Earlier, he used to teach children with his scholarship money. In 1988, he founded the Vishal Bharat Sanstha. This institution is continuously discharging its role in social up gradation. After the Sankat Mochan bomb blast, Muslim women of this institution tried to give a message to the society by reciting Hanuman Chalisa.
Projects like Grain Bank are also being run by this institution, which is quite popular in Varanasi.
During the conversation with us, Dr. Srivastava said that professional people worry about their promotion while emotional people worry about the promotion of society.
