I was recommended to Dr Begani's day care center by a friend who had had very positive experiences with the doctor and his center, 1 1\/2 years ago. I was also impressed by the fact that he's worked on some very important people. However, the facilities of the center, and the attitude of the staff this last Saturday were nothing short of awful. I called several times before bringing my grandfather to the clinic for a fecal impaction emergency, and also visited the clinic in-person before bringing him. I spoke with the doctor on the phone, and his staff, and was assured that if I bring him he would not have to wait and they would treat him on a priority basis since he's very senior and is in a lot of discomfort. On explaining his problem of fecal impaction and that he had to keep visiting the bathroom due to him having taken laxatives, the gentleman at the front desk snickered and smiled. Very unprofessional. I persisted with bringing him here, because this was the closest clinic to where we live and because of Dr. Begani's reputation. I was asked to come by 3pm and I could see the doctor. I was assured this time by several people at the clinic and the doctor himself. On arriving at the clinic with my grandfather at 2:30, the front desk staff rudely told us that the doctor has to go to Bombay hospital and wasn't available. After a brief argument, and pushing to see the doctor, we were finally able to secure the doctor's time. At this point, the lady at the front desk said to pay a consultation fee of Rs.2,500 beforehand or we wouldn't be able to see the doctor. Also, she added, the credit card machine wasn't working so it would have to be paid in cash. We said we wouldn't pay until we saw the doctor. The "consultation" with the doctor involved a light viewing, some asking of questions and an enema procedure. While writing the prescription, the doctor said that he didn't have time to examine my grandfather closely enough to see if he has piles, as he had to rush to Bombay hospital. He also instructed that my grandfather come visit again on Monday during which he would check for piles. After the procedure was over, the clinic had no diapers to give my grandfather - we had to call for them from our home. Additionally, there was no dressing gown given and we were not warned that the clothes would be damaged after the procedure (which they were). To top it all off, after the procedure was performed, our bill was Rs.5,000. My guess is, that Dr Begani was once a doctor who cared for his patients, and his staff were perhaps conscientious professionals. But today there is nothing professional or caring about this day care center. Avoid at all costs, unless you want to be humiliated and ripped off.
