★ ★ ★ ★ ★ I went to Dr Kelkar in very late 80s and was fine with the fillings and root canals done.
I have lived overseas after this, so went to other dentists for my requirements.
Since I am now semi retired with no insurance coverage, I went back to Dr Kelkar again in Jan 2020. It was easy to get an appointment, since his clinic is not as busy like in the past.
And I got the feeling that the treatment was more a quick fix revenue oriented cosmetic approach without thought to the future my dental health at age 63.
I was recommend 9 crowns, some of which were over multiple teeth, so without gaps. Turns out, it is now difficult to floss in between and keep the mouth fresh.
The Canadian dentists told me that the crowns were not done to the required standards and the way they were attached to the gums made it difficult for the brush to reach and clean effectively. l was told this would create infection problems soon.
Further I was told that a single crown without gaps was no longer done in view of hygiene and future health of the mouth and gums. I was also told that so many crowns were really not necessary.
Less than 6 months later, I now have to seek expensive recourse because one of the crowns fell off. I was told that this was because the tooth underneath decayed and broke off with the crown attached!
When I had checked, before the crowns were fitted, I was assured by Dr Kelkar that there was no problem with my root canals and it was fine for the procedure to be finished.
Now in Canada, have been told that the entire job with 9 crowns needed to be redone at major expense. My expense with Dr Kelkar was 76K, so not a small amount.
I wrote to Dr Kelkar on his email ID and so far there hasn’t been a response. I have even tried to connect with him on linked in.
I think people need to be aware that in India, medical practitioners and dentists are not guided by protocol or ethics. If you want quality please do some research before getting procedures done here.
