Duke Library was an attempt to express gratitude to foreign ruler. Raibahadur Jot Kumar Mukhopaddhay, Zamindar of Uttarpara donated this library in honour of Sir William Duke, K.C.I.E., C.S.L. Lt. Governor of Bengal in 1915.
