Suresh MATHUR has over 45 years of experience in the oil & gas industry. He was the founding Managing Director & CEO of Petronet LNG, India’s first LNG facility (shareholders include ONGC, IOC, GAIL, BPCL, ADB &Gaz de France) and was the Finance Director of Indian Oil Corporation, India’s only Fortune 500 company. He presently serves as an independent director on the Boards of various private and public companies. He has been director of  Gujarat State Petroleum Corporation, Gujarat State Petronet Limited including as the Chairman of Omax Auto Limited. Between 2005 and 2009, he was on the Board of Essar Oil in an executive role as Director (Oil and Gas). He also acts as an industry expert to investment funds and as a mentor and strategic advisor to the leadership teams across sectors. As the founding Managing Director & CEO of Petronet LNG (1998-2005), Suresh was responsible for conceptualizing and executing India’s first LNG terminal project which was conceived in 1998 at a total LNG chain investment of US$ 4 billion. The 5 million tonne pa facility commenced operations within 36 months and below budgets in April 2004 and is now a profit making enterprise with revenues of US$ 1 billion pa. Its stock price performance has delivered a 300% return to investors since its listing on the Indian stock exchanges in March 2004. In order to achieve these milestones, Suresh created the organization structure, selected technology, negotiated 25-year agreements for purchase of LNG as well as for shipping time charter and marketing & sales, raised over US$ 700 million, managed diverse stakeholders, implemented SAP and achieved ISO certification. In his 32 years with Indian Oil Corporation (1966-1998), last as its Finance Director, Suresh has been responsible for many functions including Finance, Marketing, Operations and Corporate Planning amongst others. As the head of International Trade for 7 years, he negotiated supply contracts involving US$ 10 billion each year and played a pivotal role during Gulf Crisis in managing full supplies to meet the country’s requirements. He was also a member of the empowered committee responsible for all the country’s imports of crude oil & products (1994-1998). He also served as a financial analyst for a World Bank project in Nigeria and was a consultant with ITC Geneva where he authored a handbook on import of crude oil and petroleum products for developing countries. Suresh has been honoured with several awards including “Knight of the Order of Merit” by President of French Republic (2004), “Achiever of the Year” by Governor of Maharashtra, India (2004), “Pariavaran” Award by Governor of Uttar Pradesh, India for conservation of the environment, and “Best Corporate Marketing Manager” by the National Foundation of Indian Engineers. He is a frequent keynote speaker at all major international oil & gas conferences. Suresh received a Bachelor of Commerce degree with honours from Shri Ram College of Commerce, Delhi University and is a qualified Chartered Accountant. He also attended advanced management programs at Henley Management College (UK) Indian Institute of Management (Ahmedabad) and Administrative Staff College (Hyderabad).
