The Govardhana matha is a monastery located in Puri in Odisha. It is associated with the Jagannathtemple and is one of the four cardinal mathas founded by Adi Shankara in the 8th century CE. The deities here are Jagannath (Bhairava) and the devi is Vimala (Bhairavi). The mahavakya is Prajnana Brahma. There are Shri Vigraha of Goverdhananatha Krishna and Ardhanareshwara Shiva installed by Adi Shankara. The whole of the Eastern part of the Indian subcontinent is considered as the territory of Sri Govardhan Peeth. This includes the Indian states of Bihar, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh, Andhra Pradesh till Rajamundry, Odisha, West Bengal, Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, Sikkim, Meghalaya, Tripura, Mizoram, and Uttar Pradesh till Prayag. The countries Nepal, Bangladesh and Bhutan are also considered spiritual territory of the math . Puri, Allahabad, Gaya and Varanasi are some of the holy places under this Math.

It's one of four mutts which was formed by Adi sankaracharya, it's an amazing place to visit, very calm, clean and nicely maintained. They have rooms as well, which you have to book in advance and come. It's very near to the Puri Beach and Market.

Purvamnaya Sri Govardhana Peetham or Govardhan Math is one amongst the four cardinal peethams established by the philosopher-saint Bhagwan Adi Shankaracharya to preserve and propagate Sanatana Dharma and Advaita Vedanta, the doctrine of non-dualism. One must visit this place when in Puri for the peaceful ambience around. This peetham also has a Veda paathashala where are young kids learn the holy Hindu scriptures. It's part of the four primary Peethas that Sri Adi Shankaracharya established- Sringeri, Joshimath, Puri and Dwaraka.
