it was amazing I developed my skills massively while doing various tasks: my confidence and communication skill. Once a week I would help young children in wingrove church with various tasks. The responsibilities included, helping them with homework, making sure the children were safe, supervising the children when going to and from the building and cooking hot and cold meals. Three times a year between 3 to 6 days in Newcastle Sikh Temple the Sikh community held a Sikh Camp for adults and children aged 5 to elders. We would also raise money for the camps, to do this we would go one a sponsor walk, sell Asian treats and hold events. I assistant in the preparation and organisation of these camps, I helped laminating, printing, supervising children while being around the Sikh temple and attending to their needs. it was a boosting and fabulous task.

A gurdwara (gurdwārā; meaning "door to the guru") is a place of assembly and worship for Sikhs. Sikhs also refer to gurdwaras as Gurdwara Sahib. People from all faiths are welcomed in gurdwaras. Each gurdwara has a Darbar Sahib where the current and everlasting guru of the Sikhs, the scripture Guru Granth Sahib, is placed on a takhat (an elevated throne) in a prominent central position. The raagis (who sing Ragas) recite, sing, and explain the verses from the Guru Granth Sahib, in the presence of the congregation. All gurdwaras have a langar hall, where people can eat free vegetarian food served by volunteers at the gurdwara. They may also have a medical facility room, library, nursery, classroom, meeting rooms, playground, sports ground, a gift shop, and finally a repair shop.A gurdwara can be identified from a distance by tall flagpoles bearing the Nishan Sahib, the Sikh flag. The best-known gurdwaras are in the Darbar Sahib complex in Amritsar, Punjab. including Darbar Sahib, the spiritual center of the Sikhs and Akal Takht, the political center of the Sikhs The first gurdwara was built in Kartarpur, on the banks of Ravi River in the Punjab region by the first Sikh guru, Guru Nanak Dev in the year 1521. It now lies in the Narowal District of west Punjab (Pakistan). The worship centres were built as a place where Sikhs could gather to hear the guru give spiritual discourse and sing religious hymns in the praise of Waheguru. As the Sikh population continued to grow, Guru Hargobind, the sixth Sikh guru, introduced the word gurdwara.
