About Hakeem Rushed Ahmad Sadiq
Unani Tibb is based on the Humoral Theory. This theory supposes the presence of four Humours (Akhlat) in the body – Blood (Dam), Phlegm (Balgham), Yellow Bile (Safra) and Black Bile (Sauda). The Temperament (Mizaj) of a person is accordingly expressed by the words Sanguine (Damawi), Phlegmatic (Balghame), Choloric (Safrawi) and Melancholic (Sawdawi), according to the preponderance in him/her, respectively, of the above humours. The humours are assigned temperaments. Blood is hot and moist, Phlegm is cold and moist, Yellow Bile is hot and dry, and Black Bile is cold and dry.
Every person is supposed to have a unique humoral constitution, which represents his healthy state. Any change in this brings about a change in the state of health. A power of self-preservation or adjustment, “Medicarix Naturae” (Tabiat Mudabbira-i Badan), is formulated, which strives to restore any disturbance within the limits prescribed by the constitution of an individual.
The human body is considered to be made up of the following seven components (Umore Tabaiya) each having a close relation to and direct bearing on the state of health of an individual and it is therefore necessary for a Unani physician to take all these factors of the human entity into consideration for arriving at a correct diagnosis and deciding the line of treatment.
