The Institute Of Physics, Bhubaneswar is an autonomous research institution funded jointly by the Department Of Atomic Energy (DAE) and the Government of Odisha. The Institute was officially established in 1972 by the Government of Orissa, and registered in 1972 as a registered society under societies Registration Act 1860. The Institute started functioning under the directorship of Prof. T. Pradhan on September 4, 1974 in two rented rooms of the Utkal University Guest House. After a few months, the Institute moved to a rented house in Sahid Nagar, Bhubaneswar, where its academic activities got started in January 1975 with two faculty besides the then Director, Prof. T. Pradhan. From 1974 to 1981, the Institute functioned in rented buildings and moved to its present campus in 1981. On March 25,1985, the Institute was taken up by the Department of Atomic Energy. The management of affairs of the Institute is vested in a Governing Council consisting of an eminent Scientist nominated as its Chairman, the Director of the Institute and members nominated by the Department of Atomic Energy (DAE) and the Government of Orissa. The Registrar of the Institute functions as its Secretary. The Institute receives major part of its financial support from the Department of Atomic Energy, Government of India, and a token support from the Government of Orissa. The Institute also receives funds from other government agencies (like CSIR and U.G.C) to finance specific research projects

Went there for a drwaing competition. After that they showed the moon with the telescope. One of their faculties told us about the moon, the formation of the earth and many more things. Just great experience with their faculties and also with the director of IOP.

Nice institute. Nice study environment for students. Modern teaching facilities by highly qualified faculties. Very nice infrastructure and beautiful place. Lots of parking space available here.

Institute of Physics, Bhubaneswar (Odia: ପଦାର୍ଥ ବିଜ୍ଞାନ ଅନୁଷ୍ଠାନ) is an autonomous research institution of the Department of Atomic Energy (DAE), Government of India.[2] The Institute was founded by Professor Bidhu Bhusan Das, who was Director of Public Instruction, Odisha, at that time. Das set up the institute in 1972, supported by the Government of Odisha under the patronage of Odisha's education minister Banamali Patnaik, and chose Dr. Trilochan Pradhan as its first director, when the Institute started theoretical research programs in the various branches of physics.[2] Other notable physicists in the Institute's early days included Prof. T. P. Das, of SUNY, Albany, New York, USA and Prof. Jagdish Mohanty of the Indian Institute of Technology, IIT Kanpur and Australian National University, Canberra. In 1981, the Institute moved to its present campus near Chandrasekharpur, Bhubaneswar. It was taken over by the Department of Atomic Energy, India on 25 March 1985 and started functioning as an autonomous body.

Institute of physics is a research institute with major focus towards development in physical science... The main area of research include particle physics , String theory, Nuclear Physics and Condensed matter physics... So far the institute is only accepting PhD students post doctoral students and project students... Further expansion of the institute to include Integrated PhD students is under consideration... The institute provide hostel to all students and recidencial quarters to faculties and other staffs... If you are planning to visit this institute you must contact someone in advance ( you can get there number from the institute website) , so that they can make guest house and fooding arrangements.... In this institute the canteen is managed by the students, so if you want to get food from the canteen you have to inform in one day advance...
