This fort is also temporarily closed for restoration work by ASI. Though our main attraction was to visit Junagadh city due to this fort but couldn't visit it. May be next year we can see it properly.

Uparkot Fort is built at the foothills of Girnar hill during reign of the Maurya Empire and continued to be used during Gupta period. The Uparkot is one of the most interesting of old forts. It was ruled by several Chudasamas of Vamansthali. There is a one interesting story about “Junagadh” word, a woodcutter one day managed to cut his way through the forest and found a place where stone walls and a gate existed, where nearby sat a holy man in contemplation. Woodcutter the name of the place and its history, he replied that its name was "Juna" — old. Woodcutter returned and reported his discovery to the Chudasama ruler, who ordered the forest to be cleared away. But there was none who knew its history. So the place became known as "Junagadh". This historical monument having lots of mythical stories and incidents but it due to ignorance of Government bodies and ASI it's losing its beauty and importance of itself. Forts most structure has been ruined. Due to its slightly elevated location it provides a magnificent scenery view of the around it. There is entry fee except for vehicle entry ticket.
