The Kashmere Gate Monument is what was one of the gates of the fortified city and one that was placed on the northern side of the city. The gate led to the beginning of the road to Kashmir, hence the name of the gate. Now the gate is a sort of memorial to the site of one of the battles of the Indian Mutiny of 1857. The gate is not a must see, but it’s in good shape and it’s not hard to imagine that it would’ve been an imposing structure a deterrence to any invading army.

Kashmiri gate is just a remnant of an important part of Delhi history as it was a staging post for various entries into Delhi and part of the First War of Independence. The metro is right next door as is some interesting parts of Delhi history. The gates themselves are not very large and feel a little lonely just standing there.

This is grand gate for entering Shahjahanabad city of 1638 from Kashmir .. whole fort walls are gone but at few places you can find the remains. This is one of the 14 gates , and few from the remaining parts of Delhi city... Near to kashmeeri gate ISBT. No entry fee. Parking is not available ..but you can park for few mins if just passing by in front of it. Better if you park at ISBT parking and then take a walk from there , 200m away. One guard sits inside. Restoration work done at someplaces of the gates... For me it was face of Delhi , so it's always special to see this place from your eyes.... iconic.

The place was built by Shah Jahan and was named so because it used to start a road that led to Kashmir. It is a very nice place to wait for cars or bus service or any other public transport. It is open 24*7 and it's very safe as well. Lots of food stalls beside it.

Kasmiri Gate was built by Shah Jahan, it was one of the 14 gateways of Shahjahanabad leading to Kashmir, played an important role during the Mutiny of 1857, British forces held this gate for long time & later after being captured the relief force blew parts of it. Entry is free of cost, parking is a servere problem here but it's located almost next to the Metro Station which shares the same name.
