Khanabadosh - Mashobra
About Khanabadosh
Not all days are the same, even in paradise – some are more special than others. Today was one such day. For long did I pride myself in the land of the Gods and how this blessed region fed one and all from its bounty. The nutrition packed vegetables and fruits that grew in abundance throughout the year werebthe staple source of both livelihood and food for everyone in the village. But the dark clouds of the pandemic spared none. The strict regulations on movement and restrictions on work and labour have left the hand that feeds clutching at straws and thin air. The cherubic smiles on the kids and the bounce in the locals villagers gait had been replaced by desperation and depravity never seen in these parts. With no revenue from the fields and soaring prices, even basic sustenance was in peril.
The village pradhan who normally was an astute and iron fisted administrator, sat before me, despair dripping from her otherwise bright eyes . Her words slowly pierced my soul as I knew her pain only too well. I knew this hardship only too well, and recognized what it meant when pride and spirit were crushed by want and squalor.
Khanabadosh as I always say is like a sponge which absorbs everything from the locale it is based in – be it cuisine ,culture, music and most importantly the smiles and happiness which radiate so easily from these simple hill folk. I would not abandon my village for KBD owed so much to this beautiful little hamlet that had welcome us 3 years back with open arms and generous hearts.I would squeeze the sponge to the last drop to repay the immense debt of peace and joy I owed to these beautiful fellow residents.
Khanabadosh has vowed to support as many underprivileged families in the village as is possible, with no external funding or contribution. Today was the fourth round of three months of rations, condiments and staples being distributed to 35 families, taking the total number of families supported upto 90. The gratitude in the eyes of these proud people was overwhelming and was worth every penny that we spent.
As we encourage everyone to pay their blessings forward, we wish you all happy and safe times ahead. Have a great Sunday folks – ours couldn’t have been better!

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Imagine visiting a close friend’s beautiful home in a little Himachali hamlet where time stands still and the only sound is that of blissful silence.
Now imagine this friend is a gourmet chef, with the most beautiful library.
On top of that, there are two of the friendliest golden retrievers to keep you company.
And your friend is an obsessive-compulsive to your comfort and to “not letting you starve”, which essentially means you’re fed several delicious snacks and multi-course meals served in the most beautiful china you ever saw.
Khanabadosh is all that and more.
The house itself is full of knick- knacks you gawk and marvel at.
Geetika and her team (both human and canine) are so warm and genuinely welcoming that moments after your arrival, they’ve managed to convince you that you’re part of it all too. That you belong. And you do.
Can’t wait to be back. To visit our home in the hills. At Khanabadosh.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Where do I even begin? I ve stayed here thrice now (since June last year) because vacations at Khanabadosh are magical to say the least. Geetika truly is the hostess with the mostess and has the best staff around. From the beautiful garden and the decor to the furniture and specially curated welcome gift hampers, everything about the stay is beautiful and heart warming. The food is beyond expectations. I dont know whats more amazing? the evening coffee with homemade banana cake at one of the machans or drinks in the garden or the drawing room at 8:00 or reading books at the library and playing board games. Did I mention the guided treks?

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ We had a wonderful stay at Khanabadosh. It was an intimate home-stay experience, one of our finest holidays.
The Khanabadosh experience engaged all my senses: the beauty of the location and the very tastefully done house, the sound of serenity, the smells of pine cones, fresh air and embers of the bonfire, the taste of delicious home cooked meals and the warmth of the host Geetika. We travelled as a family (husband, kids ages 7 and 12 years) and stayed for 4 nights. We were here during the Xmas so we got to witness her home in all its Xmas glory that the kids thoroughly enjoyed.
There is lots to do and lots to feel at Khanabadosh. For the active, there are the mountain trails, playtime with two golden retrievers, visits to Shimla/Narkanda/Kufri and more activities that the host Geetika can help you plan. For those who just wanna be, the library, the books and corners she has created in her home, the outdoor garden, or the balcony right outside your room, or just the comfortable cosy bed in your room are ideal. All 4 of us had a great time individually and as a family!
Above all, Geetika is an excellent host very mindful of your needs and your privacy. She also has great taste : all the knick knacks in her home, in her library, her china, her well curated welcome basket, her upholstery, are a visual delight and have their own stories to tell.
A special mention for the very well trained staff: polite and efficient. And I can’t say enough for the food: suffice to say that for all the 4 days that we were there, each meal surpassed our expectations and created a delight!
We are sure to be back!

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ This was a sudden choice of a place inspired by a friend but was totally worth it. I loved quite a few things about the place. The food is the first one and it is to die for! The crispiness of the fired chicken and the cutlet were indicators of the great cooks behind it. The presentation of the food, the serving of it added to its flavour. The staff ,especially Kalam Singh ji were super helpful . The cocktails fixed by Geetika can given any resto-bar a run for their money. The house full of artefacts, details and surprises just wows you. Every corner, every nook has a story to tell. To my delight , found Asterix in her library that took care of the morning tea in the balcony with a wonderful view. You could also go for some short treks and trails through the forest. My 5 year old could do it so its fairly easy. Her two pets were very friendly and just such delight to watch. So for all the right reasons head there soon before they move to their next journey!
