Excavation Site of Mogalmari Bauddha Mahavihara. The excavation of the site which began in 2002-03, led by Professor Ashok Datta of Calcutta University has revealed the presence of a Buddhist monastery dated between 6th to 12th Century. A detailed excavation of the site started in November 2013 by the State Archaeological Directorate led to discovery of several artifacts and tablets.

Moghalmari is located on the left bank of Subarnarekha River in the District of Paschim Medinipur. The monastery has been excavated from a huge mound, which is 20m. above the ground and has a surface area of 80 sq.m. (0.888 acres) it considered the largest and oldest archaeological excavation in West Bengal. The first excavation of the site started in November 2003 & second phase took place from 2006-07 by the State Archaeological Directorate. Several artifacts, idols, a Buddhist monastery and stupas have been dug out since 2003. The monastery’s western wall has human figures, floral motifs and decorative bricks all over it. You will find glimpses into history everywhere. The museum in the site that is privately maintained by a local club also needs attention if mass tourism is a projected plan.

It's a ruins of an ancient Buddhist monastery situated near Cuttak highway. Though the most findings are taken to Kolkata museum. Yet a lots of historical elements are still there. Many idols ancient deities (some broken) are still present. The Subarnarekha river and kurumbera fort is not far from the place.
