Pice hotels are an integral part of the dining experience for Bengalis over the years. Every culture has its own eating habits. Pice hotels started in the British Raj era and I believe since then , it remained as a natural expansion of Bengali's very own meal.
The Nandy Hotel had remained inside the busy bylanes of Alipore Police Court for years. The place is hugely popular and probably one of the largest pice hotels in Kolkata. The huge place is divided into two bustling parts.
The food was absolutely top class. Subir da infused a lot of love in that simple yet extremely tasty food. After starting my meal with a begun bhaja, alu bhaate and dal, I was about to attack the inviting Tyangra macch when Subir da put a piece of Katla mach bhaja on my plate. There are some people, you just can't refuse. So I ate and ate till I was almost about to collapse. But that's all about a sumptuous Bengali Lunch.
Subir da, watching you serve, clean plates, taking care of the guests wearing your infectious smile was an unforgettable experience indeed! I always wanted to visit Nandy Hotel and am glad to make it happen finally today. You are a real inspiration Subir da. I just told Simba that your biggest asset in life is your humbleness. And today I have been fortunate enough to witness that. Hats off to you and boudi! Salute!!
