People must be thinking that PEC is a descent college with good students though IITs and some NITs are far better than it. But I’d like to defy this thinking with my answer…
Apart from the typical Sarkari college, there is something unique about PEC.
Support your dream: Due to its moderate academic load you get enough time to prepare yourself for your dream.
Do what passionates you: You have no restrictions on your extracurricular activities.
Be what you dreamt of: There is an atmosphere here of not following the traditions and going with your own way to reach the final goal.
May be these are things which seem to be common. But the results say this,
No NIT or IIT has been able to produce an astronaut till date. Kalpana Chawla had a dream and it turned into reality at PEC (Though she went for MS but PEC had a substantial role for her career).
MS from MIT! seems a tough job for even the top IITians. More than 10 alumni from PEC have done this (for an instance Dr. A B, 2007 passout) *not mentioning full name for security purposes

PEC University of Technology (formerly Punjab Engineering College (PEC) having its roots in Lahore as Mugalpura Engineering College since 1921, moved to its present campus in 1953 as PEC affiliated to Panjab University. The institute became Deemed University in 2003 through a MHRD notification and rechristened as PEC University of Technology in 2009. It is a Grant-in-Aid institution under administration of Union Territory of Chandigarh, Government of India. The institute has a 146 acres sprawling and pious campus and is house of Chandigarh College of Architecture also. The academic and administrative processes are similar to IITs in the country.

Earlier, the institute was named as PEC University of Technology, then it was named as East Punjab Engineering College, later on, it was named as Maclean Engineering College. After gaining the Deemed University status in 2003, the institute was renamed to its current name.
