Samtel HAL Display Systems Ltd. (SHDS) is a joint venture between Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) and Samtel, and was created to address the avionics requirements of HAL. SHDS’ portfolio includes system design, development, manufacturing, MRO and obsolescence management of display systems, ATE and IADS for all HAL star platforms - both fixed and rotary wing.
The Samtel HAL JV achieved the unique distinction of being the first public-private partnership in defence avionics space in India to indigenously design, qualify and serial produce a multifunction display for induction on a fighter aircraft.This has been achieved under the aegis of DARE (Defence Avionics Research Establishment) lab of DRDO (Defence Research Development Organisation).
The aim of the JV is to indigenize critical primary display technology in India, and create a Centre of Excellence to produce indigenous displays for all existing and upcoming star platforms and upgrades of Indian Air Force.
