Saptasajya Direction A place of scenic beauty, Saptasajya is situated at a distance of about 11 km to the south of Dhenkanal town. According to legends, Pandavas spent some days of their incognito life (Agnuata vasa) in these hills. The temple of Raghunath, built in honor of Lord Rama, Laxman and Sita by Rani Ratnaprava Devi of Dhenkanal attracts large crowds every year on the day of Ramanavami, in the month of March-April. A small spring flowing close by enhances the beauty of the place. It is an ideal place for picnic and relaxation. Mythologically this place finds its mention in many legends. According to folklore, it derives the name from the surrounding seven hills.[6] There is a different folklore that the Saptarishi had their ashramas in this place thereby giving the place its name as the Seven Beds or Seven Homes. There is also a mythological story, that, Rama during his exile or vanvasa had spent seven days in this spot. Another folklore goes that the Pandavas during their 12 years of exile and one year of Agyata Vasa (incognito exile) had chosen these mountains for shelter Saptasajya is a popular tourist hub for offbeat genre crowd who want to relax and move away from busy life.[8][9] It is advised in most tourism sites that a daily excursion to the village from nearby tourism hub Dhenkanal is the best option. There are no hotels or suitable urban accommodation provision noted in the village.

I had high hopes for this place. Though the road to the place is too good, once you reach it they collect ₹20 to take your bikes to the top. The road to hill top is very very bad and one can break his/her bike while riding to the top. The nature is good though and you can spend some peaceful time there. Beware of the monkeys.

This temple is situated inside a forest and there is a quiet and calm environment. Nice greenery and if you visit during rainy season, you may see waterfall which is man-made. Me and my friend saw a leopard as we tried to go inside to visit an Ashram at the top of this mountain. So, if you want to visit that small Ashram, proceed with caution. It’s a deep forest. The temple is really good. Visit and enjoy the calmness.

Underrated Location. Lovely weather up there. Full of life among the Old trees. But bad thing is people have started making the place dirty by littering. Found lots of garbage in the fresh water stream which is depressing. Hope the local Student groups make time and clean the streams every Sunday. They don’t know the worth.

One of the most picturesque, calm and quiet, beautiful place with lot of greenery. The temple situated on a hill top so the last 3 km road is very very steep. After reaching the parking place you have to climb a lot of steps to reach the temple. The temple has Ram Laxman and Sita as its main deity. You have to climb some more in a narrow road to find Maa Kali temple and few huts where some saints live. Now some arrangements have been made for people to take rest. There is a small spring as well and and two water tanks. At the starting point of the steep road there are picnic pindies for picnic by paying some money to the local welfare association. They also collect the parking fee. The name saptasajya comes from seven hilltops there

Nice place. You can give it a try. The temple is inside a forest surrounded with natural beauty. You need to ride your bike on rough cliff to reach the temple, but better keep it at the parking and walk if your bike doesn’t have that potential. Peace.
