Sealdah Division became a part of Eastern Railway on 14.04.52 after reorganisation. Geographically the division covers areas between river Hooghly on the west, Bangladesh on the north and east and Sundarbans in the south. The division serves six districts of the state of West Bengal, North 24 Praganas, South 24 Praganas, Nadia, Murshidabad, Kolkata and Howrah. Kolkata is the Central Business District of West Bengal and the flow of passengers’ traffic is centralised towards Kolkata. Sealdah terminal is more or less situated in the centre of Kolkata and thus plays a vital role in management of suburban traffic. Kolkata, Barrackpore, Diamond Harbour, Dakshineswar, Krishnagar City, Nabadwip Ghat, Murshidabad, Plassey, Shantipur etc. attract visitors in large numbers throughout the year due to their historical and religious background. There are three station terminals at Sealdah: Sealdah North, Sealdah Main and Sealdah South. The North section consists of Sealdah North and Sealdah Main buildings. It has 5 platforms in North and 9 platforms in main section, the platforms of North sections are 1, 2, 3, 4 & 5 Sealdah main consists of platform no 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13 & 14, one more platform is present beside platform no 14 which is used by only goods trains and high capacity parcel vans. The South section consists of Sealdah South terminal, with 7 platforms 15, 16, 17, 18, 19, 20 & 21. This 21 platforms, carrying around 700 trains that start, end, or pass through the station daily. Nearly one lakh sixty thousand passengers travel daily via these 21 platforms. Number of Originating Trains: 369 Number of Terminating Trains: 370

Sealdah is one of India's major railway terminal serving the city of Kolkata. Sealdah is one of the busiest railway stations in India and also the second largest railway station in India after Howrah located in the same city of Kolkata. It also acts as an important suburban rail terminal. It handles in all around 20 lakh (2 million) passengers daily. A bulk of those using the station, around 12 lakhs, commute daily for work in 917 local trains.

Sealdah - India's one of the most crowded railway station. It is divided into two parts viz Sealdah Main and Sealdah South. Long route trains generally come at Platform no 8 to 12 at Sealdah Main. Rest all the platforms are for local trains..Sealdah has multiple food joints, ATM, and all kind of vendors selling almost all the items. IRCTC food point is also their but its expensive. Do visit it once in your life time to see how the masses running and catching trains. Simple unbelievable.

The Life line of Kolkata ( City of Joy ) is Sealdah railway junction station. The main connecter with various small town and district . Hundreds of local train reach here with lakhs of passengers travellers, working people, official staff , foreigners from various corners of country. Peoples come Sealdah railway station to reach Kolkata for daily work and livelihood every day and return after finishing daily works. This is Asias busiest local station divided in North and South section. I think there is 20-22 platform. Various food court , Book ? store branded show rooo and jwellery Show room namely P.C CHANDRA JEWELLER , SENCO GOLD ,Anjali jeweller are available here. Dormitory room , jono aharr, drinking water, ladies and gents toilet every facilities available here।. Digital ticket counter and machine , ATM COUNTER OF VARIOUS BANK ALSO KNOWN . Sealdah Railway station in Kolkata is one of the busiest railway station in India, currently having 20 platforms with an estimated 1.8 million passengers footfall daily is a hub spot for Indian Railways. It's serves as a crucial suburban rail terminal alongwith express train terminal which connects all major cities of India. It's has high class AC waiting room facility. The Sealdah station is established in 1869, it served as a tram station until 1978. The station is divided into three terminals; Sealdah Main ( for express and long distance train for all other parts of India), Sealdah North (for Suburban train like Lagila, Krishnanagar, Shantipur, Gede, Handnabad, Bongao, etc route), Sealdah South ( for Suburban train like Namkhana, Laxikantapur, Diamond Hubour, Budge Budge, Baruipur, etc route). Presently, Kolkata East West metro rail Line 2 has been constructed across the Sealdah Railway Station, which brings even more commuters to the station. It's making an engaged hub, as a result business house, brand like -Haldiram, Bazar Kolkata, Anjali Jewelers, Senco Gold, P C Chandra Jewelers, Mahendra Dutta and Sons, Cookme Spices, etc has opened their outlet in the Sealdah Station.

It is the oldest and largest existing railway complex in India. It is one of the busiest train stations in the world and some food shopes are available in this station area... Loved the place and everytime l pass by the station Lot of memories strikes .....❤️

IRCTC lounge services in sealdah station is very good. Per hour only you need to pay Rs.56/per person.Its pretty good deal to wait 1-2 hrs in Sealdah station . With excellent ambience..You can have tasty foods also.. Overall it was very good at reasonable price.
