★ ★ ★ ★ ★ पंढरपूरचे विठोबा मंदिर हे कोट्यवधी हिंदू भाविकांचं आराध्य दैवत तसेच महाराष्ट्राचे कुलदैवत असलेल्या विठ्ठलाचे प्रसिद्ध मंदिर आहे. या मंदिरामुळे पंढरपुरला दक्षिण काशी म्हणतात. इसवी सन ५१६ मध्ये सापडलेल्या ताम्रपटापासून पंढरपूरचा आणि त्याच्या आसपास असणाऱ्या काही गावांचा उल्लेख आढळतो. याबरोबरच देवळाचा ' लहान माडू ' ( देऊळ) उल्लेखही नंतरच्या काही शीलालेखांमध्ये पाहायला मिळतो. विशेषत: बाराव्या शतकात सापडलेल्या ' ८४ वा लेख ' हा शीलालेख सध्याच्या मंदिराबाहेर उत्तरेकडच्या भिंतीवर लावण्यात आला आहे. आधीच्या देवळानंतर ८४ वर्षांनी या देवळाचा जीणोर्द्धार झाला आहे असे समजुन ८४ लक्ष योनीतून मुक्ती मिळण्यासाठी भाविक त्याला पाठ घासून मगच देवळात प्रवेश करतात. यामुळे हा शीलालेख झिजल्याने त्यास आता तारेचं कुंपण बसवलं आहे.
गाभारा , अंतराळ आणि सभामंडप हे आताच्या देवळाचे मुख्य घटक असून सभामंडपाच्या १६ खांबांपैकी एकावर चांदीचं आवरण बसवलं असून तोच गरूडस्तंभ म्हणून प्रसिद्ध आहे. स्थापत्यशास्त्राच्या दृष्टीने विचार केला तर जीणोर्द्धार करण्यात आलेलं पांडुरंगाचं मंदिर हे १६ , १७ आणि १८ व्या शतकातलं बांधकाम असावं , असा जाणकारांचा अंदाज आहे. असं असलं तरीही मूळ मंदिराचे १२ व्या शतकातले अवशेष अजूनही तिथे आढळतात. या देवळाच्या दक्षिणेला खंडोबा , व्यंकटेश अशा देवतांची लहान लहान देवळंही आहेत.
१९४६ मध्ये साने गुरुजींनी हरिजनांना पंढरपूरच्या विठ्ठलमंदिरात प्रवेश मिळावा म्हणून उपवास केला, तेव्हा हरिजनांना मंदिर खुले झाले.
 The Vithoba Temple in Pandharpur is an adored deity of millions of Hindu devotees as well as a famous temple of Vitthal, the family deity of Maharashtra. Due to this temple, Pandharpur is called Dakshin Kashi. The copperplate found in 516 AD mentions Pandharpur and some of the surrounding villages. Along with this, the 'Lahan Madu' (temple) of the temple is also mentioned in some later inscriptions. In particular, the inscription '84th inscription', found in the 12th century, is inscribed on the north wall outside the present temple. Realizing that this temple has been revived after 84 years after the previous temple, the devotees enter the temple only after rubbing their backs to get rid of 84 lakh vaginas. As a result, the inscription has worn out and is now fenced with stars.
The gabhara, the space and the sabhamandap are the main elements of the present temple and one of the 16 pillars of the sabhamandap is covered with silver and is known as the eagle pillar. From an architectural point of view, the restored Panduranga temple is believed to have been built in the 16th, 17th and 18th centuries. Even so, the 12th century remains of the original temple are still found there. To the south of this temple are small temples of gods like Khandoba and Venkatesh.
In 1946, when Sane Guruji fasted for the Harijans to enter the Vitthal Temple at Pandharpur, the temple was opened to the Harijans.
