Presidency Banks of Bengal
The presidency Banks of Bengal, Bombay and Madras with their 70 branches were merged in 1921 to form the Imperial Bank of India. The triad had been transformed into a monolith and a giant among Indian commercial banks had emerged. The new bank took on the triple role of a commercial bank, a banker's bank and a banker to the government.
But this creation was preceded by years of deliberations on the need for a 'State Bank of India'. What eventually emerged was a 'half-way house' combining the functions of a commercial bank and a quasi-central bank.
The establishment of the Reserve Bank of India as the central bank of the country in 1935 ended the quasi-central banking role of the Imperial Bank. The latter ceased to be bankers to the Government of India and instead became agent of the Reserve Bank for the transaction of government business at centres at which the central bank was not established. But it continued to maintain currency chests and small coin depots and operate the remittance facilities scheme for other banks and the public on terms stipulated by the Reserve Bank. It also acted as a bankers' bank by holding their surplus cash and granting them advances against authorised securities. The management of the bank clearing houses also continued with it at many places where the Reserve Bank did not have offices. The bank was also the biggest tenderer at the Treasury bill auctions conducted by the Reserve Bank on behalf of the Government.
The establishment of the Reserve Bank simultaneously saw important amendments being made to the constitution of the Imperial Bank converting it into a purely commercial bank. The earlier restrictions on its business were removed and the bank was permitted to undertake foreign exchange business and executor and trustee business for the first time.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ I cannot say this is very great bank cause my bank branch is from other city and they dont even cash my payments it is allowed to do payments cash in all urgent need i have to do complete to banks persons have to understand them clients troubles they have to help us that is they are in this bank right km se Kam payment ko 50 bar cash krna allowed hona chaiye Kam se Kam 25 bar At least no we cant do no we can't do is all they said always it's not good for ynour banks reputation so u need to update the terms and conditions cause there would be something important if that person comes to your bank it's your responsibility to done their work sir them work sir do listen I need an answer for this please it's an kind request all the banks are do payments cash in cases of urgency of all customers bank toh state bank of india Ka hi hai na right what's the matter if banks branch is somewhere else atleast u peoples should understand the clients bank operater who is having an account in your bank do u cash my payment or not ? At least once i have an urgent important need seriously why don't I understand if u did this only then it can be clear i do respect and care of your all clients or not

Specific branch (Defence colony zirakpur branch ) should be closed or appropriate action to be taken against this lazy staff.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ The staff is very cooperative. You may have to wait for sometime due to crowd; your work may be delayed but never denied.
I was in hurry but one employee was not on his chair (as it was lunch hour). So, another saff member went to his work station for that particular task; to help me out and I was able to get my work done in time. I've seen the staff going for only 15 minutes lunch break, which is a rare sight in Zirakpur. The work ethics are very impressive.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Very pathetic service. The employees working inside insults customers and are very rude. Specially one lady employee inside sitting on second cabin on left side. She does not know how to talk to bank customers. She insults people on their face by saying foul words and passing wrong comments. Many people did fight with her because of her client dealing. I hope SBI Branch head or regional head will take required actions to retain their customers those are losing their interests to visit this branch.
