Famous for Nihari which you can get from dawn to early morning. Beef items are popular here. Food is tasty but oil used is quite unhealthy. Behaviour is fine. Hygiene should be improved.

Simple. Just get up in the dawn, jog or walk up to Sufia by 6:30 am, and reward yourself for the exercise you just did by a plate of Nihari and accompanying roti or puri. Older customers do complain that quality has deteriorated, but it's still great for a quick bite. Legacy restaurant. Recommended.

(For beef eaters) If you are asking for a breakfast destination that too during winters, I will highly recommend you this place. Beef nihari, their signature dish is being served early in the morning and after evening too. Make sure to visit before 9 AM in the morning or after 7PM in the evening. Coming to the food, we tried beef nihari with tandoori roti you can try it with fried bread (luchi) as well, don't forget to squeeze the lemon on top of it. Cost for two, 300 (approx). Sitting arrangement is good, not much comfortable but okay.

Sufiya restaurant has always been famous for its Beef Nehari accompanied with Daal Puri & Tandoori Roti. The best thing about Sufiya is that it has maintained its flavour and quality. I have been visiting Sufiya for many years and I haven't noticed even a little drop in their taste. Though it's getting a bit pricey every year. If you eat beef and like nehari then this is a must visit place for you in Kolkata.

Reached Sufia at 5:20 AM and saw about 50 people eating/waiting around. If you want take-out you would get it quickly but if you want to dine in then you have to wait for a table to become available. Tried the Nahari and Puri. The meat was butter-soft and the gravy was spicy. Squeezing some lemon juice added the much needed acidic kick. The puris were soaked in rancid oil and we didn't like that much. Apart from Nahari, Mutton stew was also available which we didn't try. 2 plates of Nahari and 12 puris cost us Rs.280. Overall I would say it was average (3/5). Don't expect the out of the world taste or aroma of Raheem's Kulcha-Nahari of Lucknow. That's a different class altogether. Nonetheless, you can surely visit Sufia to taste the dish and have the experience for yourself. But you have to ensure you reach there quite early, preferably by 6 AM.

|NIHARI AT SUFIA, KOLKATA| We, the people of Kolkata, have certain obsession over roadside morning breakfasts no matter what. Strings of local stalls selling kochuri sobji, radhaballavi, luchi cholar dal etc. is ultimately what we crave for. But, irrespective of those regular meals, why not try something different this time? Sufia's famous warm breakfast gives one such experience where people queue up early in the morning especially during the winters. ? ABOUT NIHARI- The word 'Nihari' came from the Arabic word, 'Nahar' meaning 'morning'. It is made from the shank meat of beef along with the bone marrow. Slow cooked for 6-8 hours, the meat is cooked with spices in huge vessels sealed with dough. ? WHAT IS SPECIAL ABOUT IT? It is said that Nihari was eaten on an empty stomach by the Nawabs during the Mughal period as a breakfast meal usually after the morning prayers. Soon as years passed by, it gained popularity as a home remedy for cold, fever, boosting immunity etc along with it's satisfying taste. Sufia Restaurant, an age-old establishment having mediocre ambiance yet setting the bar high when it comes to serving mouth watering nihari & paya. Two big tender pieces of meat is served in a plate (Rs 140/-) with coriander leaves and chillies garnished on the top going perfectly with gorom gorom dal puris/tandoori rotis (Rs 5/- pc) Lastly, don't forget to squeeze lemon into the dish as it takes you to a whole new aromatic ride. So, sacrifice your sleep for one morning & don't forget to thank me later. โœ… Available only in Beef โœ… Takeaway available โœ… Timings: Mon-Sun, 5am- 8am (go as early as possible)
