Small place where you can see Surpanakha statue showing the nose cut by Lord Laxmana. I do not know if this is really correct place where this thing happened, however people believe it, so do I. You can hire an auto to roam around all these famous places in couple of hours (general charges are around 300-400 Rs) Outside this temple you will get nice quality Kulphi (pot made), do not forget to taste it.

This is a very good temple in the Tapovan area of Nashik. It is the place where Laxman, brother of Lord Rama cut off the demon Surpanakha’s nose. Surpanakha was Ravana’s sister. Tapovan itself is a mesmerising area covered with lush greenery and dense forest, much of which have been converted to municipal gardens and parks. It is believed that Tapovan was part of the holy Dandakaranaya forest with the Godavari River flowing nearby. This place has close association with the epic Ramayana. Long years ago the forest was meant for meditation by the great sages, hence the name Tapo-van (meditate-forest).

The name of Nashik City is given on this incidence of Ramayana. Lord Laxman cut Surpanakha's nose here...nose means Nasika in Hindi. So Nashik City name is given Nashik on Nasika. Love for Nashik City. This place is situated in Tapovan where also godavari river which is called south ganga flows. Greatl place for tourist.

This temple is better known as the Shree Laxmanji Temple. It is located in the Tapovan area of Nashik. It is supposed to be the place where Lakshmana, brother of Lord Rama, cut off Surpanakha's nose. Surpanakha was the demon Ravana's sister. Near the entrance to the temple there is a larger than life model of Laxman in action, cutting off Surpanakha's nose with a sword. It is enclosed in a glass case. Deeper inside the temple we saw an idol of Lakshmana in a meditation pose. He is supposed to have performed penance here. There were also idols of Lord Ganesha and Lord Hanuman. It is a temple worth visiting. The city of Nashik got its name due to this incident of the cutting of the nose, because the Hindi word for nose is 'nakh'.

I just loved this place due to it's mesmerizing beauty and the place known for it's mythological happenings. Maximum people's are mentioning the episode of Surpnaka but forgetting the most important part...... that is the "tap" done by Laxman to fight with the prowess of Meghnath. The place is quiet and serene........one visiting Nashik must visit this place.......I just loved it

Definitely one of the go-to temples in Nashik. The aura of this temple was mesmerizing to behold, with the entrance and entire journey filled with calmness. Especially with walls filled with scenes depicting the lords and others. Something notable was near the entrance gates, there will be a vendor selling kulfis. It was delicious and should be given a try.
