★ ★ ★ ★ ★ For 100 years now, Walwan dam has stood across the Indrayani river, not far from Lonavala. A source of hydro-electricity in the region, the dam was set up after Jamsetji Tata envisioned that clean energy would power industry, particularly the cotton mills. That dream was eventually realised by his son Dorab Tata, who laid the foundation stone of Walwan dam on February 8, 1911.
But industrial growth wasn’t the only thing on the mind of the Tatas’. At the foundation-laying ceremony, Dorab Tata was quoted as saying: “Just for a moment think what a glorious city Bombay would be if freed from smoke.”
Today, Walwan dam stands 26.63 metres high (above the lowest foundation), 1,356 metres long with a storage capacity of 72 million cubic metres. Initially, the capacity of the dam was 40 MW but as technology progressed, its capacity today is 72 MW.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Nice place..you hv to walk about a 1 km and then a 200 m trkking to reach the lake.. Its worth it...huge lake with enough water.. Would love to go fr a swim too.

The dam is no longer open for public viewing. However there are hills on either side of the dam. Climb up to get a really good view of the dam and the lake. On the hill near Tata Power garden, there is a cave. Try and find it :-) Search for 'Cave near Valvan Dam'. I'm trying to add it to Google Maps. Best time to visit would be during or just after the monsoons.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Best place for peace and serenity I have visited with my buddies here, we also have the dine over thier we made our foods over the chullas with available woods and have a small camp too we spend thier a whole day the flowing water is so pleasing to heart , we had a grete day over thier
but
remember you will have to trek a lot to reach the place we have been their after treeking atlast for an hour from the walwan dam towards next side via shore
Over thier you will also see the partition of stonework in shore side ways that's cause of Tata Power have taken the whole dam and area for leise in 18s only
